Car wont start after T-Belt job?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just finished up a timing belt job and i want to start it before i put the bumper back on. But went i turn the key the car nothing happens. When i turn it two clicks it makes a weird noise Ive never noticed before for a sec then stops. Then when i turn the key "click" nothing. I put a jumper box on it to but still nothing. Im hoping maybe somethings not plugged in? Any idea?

please describe the "weird noise." grinding? slow cranking? does the starter engage? did you double check your timing marks?

Yea my timing marks looked right. And no its not cranking. If i had to describe the sound it sounds just like when you hit the windshield washer. You know the sound the motor makes when its spraying? And stops after like 2 sec

Check your faults, and check your battery voltage.

Id go through the basics first and check all the connections and plugs. You spun the motor manually twice with the crank bolt and a breaker bar before turniing it on to make sure the timing marks are correct and no valves collied with a piston right?

that's nothing to do with the timing belt job, my car makes the same noise and I always attributed it to the electronic hvac re-setting or something similar that's not really important.

there's not much that won't let the car start, check the coilpacks, cam sensor and all the connectors on the radiator core support are hooked up with the other connectors by the P/S res.

    check fuses too, just incase..

Well i didnt touch the coil packs would they really go while i was doing the T-belt? Wheres the cam senor? And i think i got all the plugs on the radiator core support cause there tied together right?

I think there was 4 plugs on the radiator that i plugged in.

it's on the very front of the engine, the plug pokes out of the timming belt cover, look at the hood latch on the core support and look back about 6" and you'll find it.

they're all *supposed* to be tied together, so long as every plug is pluged in by the res you're ok. They really shouldn't be necessary to start the car but it's something to consider.

There's also a temp sensor at the bottom connecting hose to the radiator..

Re: Car wont start after T-Belt job?

Yup got all those plugs. And the cam sensor is plugged in.

Like i was saying its weird cause the cars not even trying to turn over? I put a jumper box on it but no change. I'll put it back on though and leave it on till i get it started.

FYI i did clean out the air box but i didnt disconnect anything over there i dont think.

What motor? if V6 Did you use the crank lock pin? Maybe you forgot to take it out. Check to see if your starter is getting power when you turn the key.

whats the icm look like? Is it the thing on top that has two plugs that says HUCO? If so yea thats plugged in. Still no dice.

Could i have put the tensioner to tight? Cause i pulled the pin but then i had to tighten a nut on the pulley which made that thing with the pin extend even more.

it could be tight. it doesn't seem like thats your issue. do you hear the starter solenoid engaging when you turn the key to start? I would guess maybe you messed with the alternator cables or the ground on the motor mount for the starter itself. check those connections. you could have also fried you ignition switch if you shorted out something on the starter. did you mess with anything electrically?
