Washer fluid problems. Anyone else get this too??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright so the low windshield washer fluid indicator came up on my gauge screen thing. Now when i put fluid in it leaks down by the bottom of bumper/wheel well. Ive heard the the headlight washer pump cracks and causes to leak. But im thinking maybe its the resevoir or leak in a hose.

anyone have any opinions or experiences with this situation?

the washer fluid res is in an easy-to-see location. Jack up the car and take a look-see, if necessary, fill with fluid and have someone engage the pump to see where it's comming from. However my bet is the clip that holds the line from the bumper and the line from the res has come off or broken and the two lines are dis-connected. You must purchase a whole new connector from audi to replace the clip since the clip is apart of the connector, It's a $13 part, I know because I bought one

Re: Washer fluid problems. Anyone else get this too??

Most headlight washer pumps usually fail by rusting due to bad fluid or running dirty tap water. It then shorts out internally and pops the fuse for both pumps. not too many actually start leaking out of nowhere (although it is possible, esp. if running straight water in winter time). If i had to guess id say its the same connector (supply hose from pump to headlight washer hose at drivers side near headlight. has the bumper recently been off? another easy way to get to that area is to take out the drivers side headlight, that way you can fill it up and watch it at the same time. does it leak all the time or just when the pumps are activated. if it leaks all the time this could be a damaged grommet/seal for one of the pumps or a cracked reservoir. a lot of a4's also have a 2 piece reservoir with a seal in the middle but if that were leaking, it would still fill up halfway and the light wouldnt come on immediately. hope this helps. peace.

Re: Washer fluid problems. Anyone else get this too??

I bought this car about 2 months ago and the problem had already existed. I doubt the bumper has been off recently, looks like the owner didnt do too much to the car(including cleaning anything). It does leak all the time if you try and fill it up. But right now it doesnt leak and theres still enough fluid for the windshield fluid to work so not all is draining.

thanks for the help and anymore opinions would be great.

I have the same issue.. I used the fluid to wash my winshield and the the icon came on. I filled it and it was fine. NO LEAKS.. whatsoever. Started the engine and rolled off the driveway and there goes the leak. I have yet to jack up my car to see whats going on.

This just happened to me - pour in washer fluid to later find it on the ground. I needed the headlight washer pump $76 at the F****G dealer... how dumb of me for not looking online first. Very cheap on ECSTUNING.com. Pretty easy install but you're going to have to take of the wheel and such to get to the resivoir. It wasn't a prob for me cause I was already in there doing the ABS module.

The guy who installed it fixed the actually headlight sprayers too....I have to admit- pretty cool when they actually work lol

Re: Washer fluid problems. Anyone else get this too??

okay so i finally got around to taking a look at my washer fluid problem. Looks to me that the line going into the washer pump at the base of the bottle was just loose or not put on all the way. So i just drained the fluid, got it nice and dry, and sealed it with silicone sealent. Hoping this will solve the problem.
