best springs that will lower my b6 the most?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just bought a all stock b6. its way to high for me! I cant afford coilovers right now but i want it to sit low on the 18s or 19s im about to buy. What springs have the best lowering rate?

another question, will 19x8.5 fronts and 19x9.5 rears fit a b6 with springs?

Re: best springs that will lower my b6 the most?

don't put race springs on your stock suspension or you'll kill your setup. sport springs should be fine, but as i recall for example neuspeed's sport spring only lowers the car about .75" from stock sport suspension, and about 1.5" or somewhere around there for oem non-sport suspension. if you don't want to spend the money on CO's but still want to use race springs, buy a cheap aftermarket suspension + spring setup.

    Don't forget shocks too.

You MUST change the shocks/dampers if you go to a lower spring. The stock height shocks life will be measured in months if not weeks. They are the wrong length and compression/rebound rates. Your car will not ride well. Your best bet is a package that is sold by many companies including our site sponsors. Also if you go used make sure you get springs from the same type of car i.e. 1.8T manual or tiptronic or 3.0 manual or tiptronic. This is VERY important.

    Good luck.

I have the ABT springs on stock sport shocks. I like them and I got a great deal on them (130) but they make my avant sag a bit in the rear. Its alright, I like keep the ass down.

Re: best springs that will lower my b6 the most?

Dude honestly, just wait another month or 2 and buy coilovers. They are better in every way. Buy nice not twice. I made that mistake and am I regretting it like alot of other people. I bought lowering springs only and now I wish I had just waited another month or so and gotten c/o. Dont spend unnecessary money if you don't have to. Just trying to help you out in the long run man .

Just FYI. I am running ebay Tein springs and I love them. $440 to my door and they have worked out great. (Not to say I dont wish I had c/o)

Re: best springs that will lower my b6 the most?

I dont plan on race-like driving... I just want to lower my car and gain a good amount of performance.

The way I see it is:

Coilovers: Adjustable, Lowest ride height without scraping, best perfomance, Expensive ($1000-$2000)

Spring/Shock Combo: Non adjustable, low ride height some scraping, good perfomance, Fairly cheap ($650-$800)

im suck between the two... I want to be able to adjust the height in the case that the front sit's lower than the rear or vise versa. But I ultimately just want a lower stance and tighter suspension.

If anyone has a link to a website that has koni/stasis coilovers for under $1001.00 hook it up!

Re: best springs that will lower my b6 the most?

    Take this advice:

When you speed ~$700 on springs/shocks, pay for shipping, pay for or work through the install, and pay for the alignment...the worst feeling is when your car still doesn't look exactly how you wanted it too, and/or doesn't ride as smoothly as you'd like. If that happens you sit there kicking yourself for not spending the extra money and getting coilovers.

Re: best springs that will lower my b6 the most?

I wish the stasis were still under a $1000. i would buy em in a heartbeat.

The thing is i just want a lower stance. Im not looking to race around a track or anything.

Its hard to justify spending $500 more for adjustablity...

I understand that a ton of people are going to say get coilovers just because they are the cream of the crop, but is it really practical for what im going to be using my car for?

Its like asking if I should put a K04 in my car or a GT28RS. Everyone is going to say the GT28RS because its bigger and better but is it really needed for say a daily driver?

I want some honest answers from people with spring and shock/strut combos... do you regret going with a spring and shock?

I have em, no scraping and they drop really low. been driving on them for over a year, half of which was on stock base struts and the other latter half on bilstein sports.

Re: best springs that will lower my b6 the most?

Jarim, C/O are practical because they fit every need you will have. I dont track my car ever, but now that I have gotten used to the ride of my Tein S-Springs, I wish I had just went with some Stasis C/O or something of that nature.

I understand that you just want a lower stance, because thats originally just what I wanted to. But now my plans are changing (as I am sure yours will too). I am going with a 28 series turbo and I am going to be driving it harder. I drive it hard as it is on my Ko3 but alot of times when I am really gettin on it coming around a corner, I have to slow alot more than I want to because I still have alot of body roll with only springs.

I am just trying to help save you some headaches in the long run, just keep your 4x4 suspension for another month or 2 and buy the coilovers. You will not regret it
Something else I should mention, like many of the people who have only springs, we suffer from something called *Our front bumper sits higher than our rear bumper*, and it tends to look a bit gangster. Coilovers will eliminate this possibility because of the fact you can adjust them. Like I said, I am not trying to flame you or anything for your wanting to go with springs, I am just trying to make sure you dont make the same mistakes alot of us did.
