    Wash before or after service?

Some of you may have seen my thread about my gear/shift linkage...Well I decided to make an appointment to get it looked at. I figure it can't hurt since I'm still under warranty and all. I'm just upset since I've had the car a little over week.

Anyways, I just got my gear to do a complete detail on the car and I'm wondering if I should wait til after I get back from the shop or do it before it goes in? The rain is coming here in Seattle and I don't have easy access to a garage to complete the work. So I want to get it done sooner rather than later. I just don't think the shop will be too keen on keeping their greasy paws off my paint.

got to do it after or do it twice. dealer is guaranteed to make a mess of your car. they'll have their hands and likely tools on it, and then (even if you ask them not to) they will probably wash it in their 'audi destroyer' wash port and leave streaks, scratches, and watermarks everywhere. oops... sorry got a little bitter there.

for real though, probably best to do it after. :)

In this case Id wash it after. Leave it dirty so when it goes to shop you can see where they rubbed up against it (because there will be no dirt in the spots they do so). Make sure you leave a note that says DO NOT WASH up on the dash.

More important, make sure that any mods and all mods are removed if you have them (see my warranty thread) and hopefully they don't try to make up some bullshit like 'you don't sit in the seat properly when you drive' to void your warranty.

Now that I got that out of the way, If I were you, I would just bring the car as is to the dealership because they will either mess it up and not wash it or they will wash it anyways. My dealership used to always wash my car before I got it lowered. They said they're worried that it will scrape now so they don't wash it. I have noticed more swirl marks in my paint since I've gotten it... Probably from the dealer as I always hand wash my car (but I guess it could be me?).

Thankfully I'm complete stock except for some vag-com stuff (seat belt, euro lights, etc) I think I may turn my seat belt back on so they don't notice anything at all.

I have been following your saga and I feel sorry for you. It makes me worried about my stuff even though there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn't fix it for free.

so they don't care that your car is lowered, but they care about about an intake? even dumber.

Re: Wash before or after service?

^^ Well like they said, if I developed a rattle or problem with the chassis it won't be covered because of the suspension modification. Basically stating that the aftermarket part has to be the cause of the problem or be related. So, when I asked how an intake is related to the transmission failure, he stated that it does not matter because any mod to the engine voids the engine/drivetrain warranty as stated in the warranty booklet that comes with the car.

Sorry to hijack the thread, I'm done replying in here... If anyone wants to comment of whatever please do it in my warranty or third gear grinding thread. Thanks.
