APR 3 Logs - timing now

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
ok, so I played around with lemmiwinks a bit.... ended up putting everything back the way it started because I feel like I must have been doing something wrong.

All I was doing was adding some spark - I didn't do any of the fuel tweaks (although I probably should have).

    Here are the three spreadsheets:

    Base Spark
    http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...RF6Q3uYpjaGXPg

    3 degrees of spark advance:
    http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...RF6HqI0GoYo5Ag

    5 degrees of spark advanv:
    http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...RF53BFLYzlDCXw

what you will see is that the ignition timing is going up, I'm getting some CF's (2's and 3's) ... the log looks pretty good on the 3 degrees of advance, but the 5 degrees look at the lambda.... could that be correct?

Yes, not bad at all the ECU can easily compensate for that much. Next time log block 031 to get the air fuel. Stay with 3 degrees.

That 3 degree advance looks like a winner to me. Did the car feel any better as far as power delivery?

Re: APR 3 Logs - timing now

I would actually stick with 5 deg. The car ran more timing down low with the same timing on the rest of the run.

I would even up it a bit more and see how car likes it

Re: APR 3 Logs - timing now

I'm running about +5 now (can't remember what increments Unitronics uses; either .75 or 1.5 I think). I am also running fuel tweaks that were suggested on vortex.
I've run as high as +7ish in the winter. I adjusted at the start of summer and am going to re-do this week for the cooler weather of fall.
I'll have to dig up logs but IMHO they were looking good on timing and CF's mostly 0's but hitting around 6 on a few cylinders at the highest point.

The difference down low is pretty amazing. Makes up for the conservative tune from APR to cover all cars from high elevation and high heat, down to sea level and cold climates.
One question I always wanted to have answered: If I bump timing via Lemmi/Unitronics and then switch my APR file, say from 93 to 91 or even race, does my timing tweak stay, or does it need re-done for each APR file?

Well maybe for 1 gear runs, but if he ends up going thru the gears his CF readings are going to get higher.

Re: APR 3 Logs - timing now

I need to add that I did 1K RPM WOT to redline logs in every gear to be sure, and my 6 CF's in a few cylinders were only on two gears.
This was with timing up around +7 in cold weather, when I first started tweaking, to be sure I wasn't in danger anywhere. I only logged +5 timing on 3rd gear pulls.

Re: APR 3 Logs - timing now

How about a multi gear run on 3 degrees of advance to see if those CF's creep up.

It doesn't hurt to try. As long as his low rpm CF's are at 0 he can always run WAI to minimize high rpm CF's

Re: APR 3 Logs - timing now

logging 1 gear does nothing for you. Your egts are prolly only starting out at 500deg C on that pull and don't go above 800deg. Unlike a 2nd-5th gear pull where by the time you hit 5th gear your egt's are already starting above 800deg C. Multi-gear pulls are the only way to log so you know that you are running safe.

    3 degrees looks very safe

I, personally, like the 5deg log. It may be okay after running through the gears. CFs are still pretty low. My car runs even higher timing advance than the 5deg log.

But you also run a built engine so you really cant compare the 2. That would be like comparing my timing map to yours.

    Now-a-days. Yes.

On my stock 1.8 I still was running more timing.
