so driving home from work i wanted to hear my new exhaust so i did a pull in 2nd, let it wind down and pulled again...the 2nd pull felt like i lost 50 ftlbs of tq.. now im realizing how much heat soak f's up performance...so im now set on getting a front mount...i was going to wait til after the winter but with racetec's being on sale i might as well pull the trigger...unless someone knows of someone selling one

Go ahead and go with the Racetec if they have it in stock. MAKE SURE IT'S IN STOCK OR IT WILL TAKE 4 MONTHS. Good luck!

Dude, you can wait until after winter! Unless you have the budget to get it now. You live in MASS, it's going to get cold and you will heat soak no more!

You're right.. you definitely NEED it!! lol! In the end, it's always up to you man. We are just telling you what we think or what we have learned from previous experience. You're going to get it eventually, yes, but have you fully thought about what you're going to do with this car. BT? BAT? If yes, then are you going to run a water/ methanol injection (to aid the FMIC in cooling the intake charge) and so on. Hope this helps

But it is a good time of the year to buy a FMIC since the demand is low and the supply is high.

I waited all summer pretty much a good 4 months before they were back in stock. Nick @ Autobahn was kind enough to save my PMs as he remembered i was interested in one.

    Meth/water injection is you friend.

You'll be able to make way more power with a w/m kit then a fmic, and its half the price

I strongly recommend you read up on it.

M/W injection is never going to replace a good FMIC since it does not reduce heat soaking of the tiny stock SMIC.

With a FMIC there is no added cost of having to refill it all the time. So that "half price" actually gets smaller and can even end up costing more after a period of time.

    Re: G#%Damn i need a front mount

Funny I just saw this post, and it was the day after i got my own FMIC installed!! I got my Racetec installed at 034 motorsport in Fremont California. I was very eager to see how my car felt after the installation, but something terrible happened. Javad handed me keys to their loaner car, and it was a black b5. I didnt think much about it...looked very stock, but I did notice the wheels and upgraded calipers. As I was about to get in to go grab some food, Javad (owner of 034) tells me it has the eliminator kit installed on it. I just give him the and promise to bring it back in one piece.

HOLY $$HIZA!!!!!!! The car's powerband was soooo different than my tiny lil K03 and I couldnt stop smiling as I was driving down the road. I never went past 60 mph with the car since there was crazy rush hour on the freeways. But I can definitly tell the car was a beast and to hear a semi bigger turbo spool was amazing. After that experience, getting back into my FMIC equipped car seemed pretty weak. Now I may just have to save up for a BT... HAHA

That's where the Meth comes into play. Shure the Smic is getting heat soaked, but when the w/m gets injected and Sends the iat's down to the point where your can freeze your throttle body, It wont matter. And their is also the added benefit of being able to increase timing for more power. If $ is a little more scarce you can always stick with the same timing and use 87 Oct. and not have to worry about power loss or detonation.

If im wrong on any of this please let me know, this is what i have gathered from reading like mad the past few days.

How do you get a w/m injection is going to freeze the TB? Only thing that is going to do that is nitrous and there is a huge difference between running nitrous and w/m injection.

A fmic makes a huge difference in the IAT's, stock SMIC on a K03 will have IAT's in the 90C(194F) range while a good FMIC will drop the IAT's down in half if not more. This means more timing can be used since the air charge being forced into the intake manifold is now colder. The Meth being sprayed just increases the octane being burned.

You might want to double check your facts on how much meth lowers the temps.. Unless for some weird reason things freeze at a higher temp in your area.

Their have been a few people who have had cases where the w/m injection has frozen the tb. Ill have a look and post a link or two (this is just what i have red, not saying its true. Maybe their were other contributing factors.)
Meth not only reduces the detonation point but does lower the iat's considerably.
From what iv gathered the meth when injected evaporates (which causes a rapid drop in temperature and very's on the mixture 50/50 / 30/70...)

Well, water is the better of the two for detonation control. So I'm guessing this would help with timing pull overall. Water also cools MORE because it takes more energy to vaporize water than methanol. However, it takes longer for water to vaporize than methanol. One way to help with this is to position your nozzle farther from the throttle body. This way, it has more time to cool down the air stream. By using more methanol in the mixture, you get immediate cooling, but not as much as water.
Im not saying a FMIC dosent do a good job, I know it does. But for the money and the added ability to bump up timing makes it (in my mind) a much better choice for a street setup on a small turbo.

Read through the thread that i posted above.

Maybe you read that their TB rusted seeing that there is no way its going to drop 190+ F deg temps to well below 32F degs. The only thing I know of that will drop IAT's to freezing temps is Nitrous. I guess you have no clue what a w/m injection actually does.

First off the water is used to soak up the heat out of the air, the meth is there as a fuel to increase octane. In no way does either of them actual freeze the air.

Fact is that nearly every person that is running a w/m injection kit is also running a FMIC since they are using the injection to lower the temps a bit more after the FMIC brings the temps back down to ambient temps and to increase the octane since they are running pump gas instead of race fuel.

Injection setups have been around longer then most of us on this forum have been alive, if it was that great it would be on every stock FI car from the factory.

Where is this huge savings you keep talking about? It isn't like the tank of a W/M injection kit fills itself up for free, either are replacement parts when they become clogged and they do.

Does the VT DOT actually put snow on the road? That is some crazy shit.

I thought the snow came from the sky. I better keep an eye on those DOT trucks dumping snow on the road.

Since snow is water i can't see how it could eat thru your FMIC. I have been running a FMIC thru CO & NH snow storms and never had an issue. VT snow much be crazy.
