So I'm About to Order K04s...

Okay, so I decided I'm going to order a set of K04s for my car. Although I'm not going full stage 3 yet, I'm ordering these now just to have ready in case my K03s go. I rather start collecting what I need now and be prepared for when it happens, than having my turbos go, and unexpectedly spend a shitload of $ all at once.

Now, I'm still a noob though, so I have a couple of questions. I'm basically looking for the cheapest, safest way to get them on and properly working. I won't be doing the fueling yet. I'll do that later down the road when I can afford it. I'm only looking for the necessitates at this point so I'm not w/o a car in case the K03s go out.

I've done a bit of searching, but I'm still uncertain on a few things. From what I gathered, basically all I need would be a set of OEM K04s, the inlets, a MBC, and 5 bar FPR. Is this correct, or am I missing something? (I have APR software btw and plan to do piggies and exhaust soon)

Also, where would be the best place to order what I need. I see so many vendors offering K04s, but as I said, I'm still new, so it's hard for me to know who to trust. I was considering ordering everything I need from VAST... how are they as a company? If you guys want to recommend other vendors as well that currently have K04s in stock, please do so.

Remember guys, just looking to get the necessities at this point. Fueling and everything else will come later on if my K03s last me long enough to save enough $ for it.

You got it covered parts wise..and you should get a stg3- tune. Inlets you can save money buy going with GenX, 034, or someone had modified k03 inlets to work on the k04s.

If I had to do it all over again I would wait a little bit and go single turbo or GT setup, just my opinion. Didnt JHM have some turbos in stock? Well good luck with the parts.

i liked AWE they had everything in stock minus the smic's but i had my parts in a week. everything went smooth after that. however i was not in your position. I am looking into vast for tuning though they seam to have good feedback from what ive herd +1

EPL in CT can give you any kind of tune you need for your K04's as far as getting them get the turbo's and all the hardware at once.
When i got K04's i was thinking teh same as you wait untill my K03's go but i said fu%k it and just did it with full fuel kit for EPl along with a custome tune . You will love it. take your time an dget all your parts IC,DP's ect, also whne the engine is out do new mounts/ timming belt , and fix any leaks

EPL is in stratford CT google them european perfromance labs .

IMO be real carefull if you use ICS in stamford CT, They screwed me over in a parts issue last year and I have been compleatly blow off about it.

The labor/work they did was ok work at best, but they sold me bad parts and after I figured it out, they acted like they gave a dam and wa sgoing to help me out, and then I was blow off by them. Talk to EPL and they will work to make your car come out right. They know teh 2.7T real well.

there have been mixed reviews about the replica inlets. some say they fit, some say not perfect. OEM always fit like a glove. I guess it comes down to you if $150-200 more for OEM is worth it

I went with OEM RS4 inlets and mine were fine as be the tech who installed them, os for teh 034 I have heard mixed but as for personal experiance I have none . 034 makes nice stuff from what people say but me I try to sticl to as much OEM AUDI stuff as I can at times for engine work outside of mods, when you think about it they were built for Audi cars so they will fit (OEM ) well from day one.
Also to add make a check list and start from there for your parts gathering.

I agree that getting the parts over time is a much better way to justify spending that much money, and it also wont put your wallet on a diet doing it that way, but a good stage 2+ can be better then a stage 3- (k04's without a tune) in many cases. Unless the K03's went, I think I would wait until I had all the parts, but thats just me. Just a heads up so you don't wonder why your stage 3 isn't running like you think it should. Also, some other things you may want to think about: sooner or later, brakes unfortunately, sorry to put the thought of such an expensive upgrade into play, but someone has to haha. Side mounts or a fmic, i am going to get the ER smic's but there are plenty of kits to choose from (AWE being highly recommended by many AZ'ers). Also have you done your clutch? I have no idea what all you have done or I would have more to say, but a stronger clutch is going to be a must. I am not stage 3, but I have the OEM RS4 Clutch with a VAST lightened flywheel, and thats what will be on when its stage 3.

Thanks for all the advice fellas. As far as the brakes go, I've got the stoptech st-40 kit on, so I'm good to go. Like I said though, I'm gathering these parts to have in hand JUST IN CASE my K03s go unexpectedly. If they hold up fine, of course I'll gather up all the parts needed and tune it accordingly to reap all the power benefits of going stage 3. However, right now I just want something to have ready in case I need it. I still want to work on going stage 2+ before I go stage 3 if I can. Again, it all depends on if the K03s last me long enough

1) From Vast, I can get the K04s, the hardware kit, OEM RS4 inlets, the MBC and finally the 5.0 Bar FPR for a total of $3270.

2) From JHM, I can get the K04s, hardware kit, OEM RS4 inlets, OEM Oil Pressure Line Kit, and Couplers/Clamps for inlets for a total of $3,181.

So if you guys had to pick one, which one would it be? Also, would I still need to get a MBC and a 5.0 Bar FPR from VAST if I went with JHM? Keep in mind that if the K03s don't last me, I would most likely be running it off of APR stage 2 software for a little while.
