    p0123 & p1544

    did some major work on the car last night, replaced some seals, took the timing belt off, corrected some timming since it was off about 2-3 teeth. Also removed the intake manifold from the car to clean around the cylinder head from leaky valve cover and to install a manifold spacer. Hooked everything back up and the car starts and idles to about 2700rpm. I *did* switch out a broken injector for one from my junk car, and that car did have some issues but it still started, i also switched the throttle body from my junk car and does the same thing, I switched it out *after* it started idling like this, the TB is from another 99.5 1.8qm so they should be compatible right?. I get;
17952 - Angle Sensor 1 for Throttle Actuator (G187): Signal too Large

    P1544 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

16507 - Throttle Position Sensor (G69): Signal too High

    P0123 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

tried to adjust the throttle body by leaving the key in the acc for a couple minuites, and I also tried it with the vag-com,
however, this has not helped the problem, when using the vag-com tba, I can hear the tb making noises, but in the measuring blocks it says adaption status as O.K., but when I switch to basic settings the same block reads as error, operational status says part throttle and the voltage comming off it reads in the 3.24v range
I didn't switch the IAT on the manifold, but I wouldn't think this woulc be an issue, I re-checked all my vaccum connections and I can't think of anything else.

    thanks for any input.

phenolic intake manifold spacer, it readuces IAT's by separating the Intake mani from the hot cylinder head.

I'm not 100% sure of the problem you are having.

Does you car idle at a constant 2700rpm or does it fluctuate.

I am not sure what type of TB you have.
For the drive-by-wire from what i remember if you disconnect the electrical harness for the throttle position sensor, the car has a safe mode and keeps the idle around 2000rpm. When this harness is disconnected and the car is running it will also throw codes (although i am not 100% sure if they are the same codes as you have).

I did have a similar problem on my other car (nissan) with the IAT. Im not sure how it works on the A4, but with my nissan a bad reading on the IAT (air too warm) caused it to have an idle at about 2500rpm.

I suggest you check to make sure the IAT is still ok, and that the wiring harness to the throttle position sensor is making good contact.

    Hope this helps...

Also what exactly is the idle doing and how does it respond when you give it some gas and back off?

I'm at work at the moment so I'll look at it when I get home, However my friend that was looking at it says the cruise control was one and no it idles right (<1000). Both tv connected are making good contact. It stood constant at 2700rpm when it was on, didn't try gasing it or anything.

    It's a DBW tb

so aparently he removed the cruise control rod and it idled normaly. I'm guessing it was opening the throttle because the manifold spacer changed the posistion of the intake manifold.

    Re: p0123 & p1544

the problem has been fixed, as stated before but now confirmed, the spacer had moved the manifold 'up' enough that if the CC rod were to be put on without being adjusted, it would force the tb in the open posistion, which caused it to rev.. the CEL codes are gone now and after driving the car around the neighborhood it runs just fine.
