So I'm thinking about 91 or 93 APR chip.

    Don't feel like getting both.

Which one is better for daily driver and spirited runs from time to time?

I want reliability since im keeping this car for the long run.

They're both reliable programs, it just depends on what is available in your area. ex. Cali 91 / Kentucky 93. I have 93 because that is what's in my area.

I have 93 octane available but its 15% ethonol.
While 91 from Shell has no ethonol.

Is there any difference in the boost levels between the two variations, or is it mostly timing changes?

ethanol makes more power. why wouldnt anyone get 93 if its available? 93 makes more power than 91. dont people usually buy a chip for MORE power?

    Re: Apr 93 or 91.

That was somewhat the direction of my question. Bottom line is more power means more engine wear whether the engine has certain tolerances built into it or not (I read an article in Quattro Quarterly where the head designer from MTM admitted as much).

I'm not necessarily looking for the most power that I can get. I would prefer a chip that gives me decent power but maybe doesn't put as much stress on the engine as the 93 program does.

    Re: Apr 93 or 91.

93 is fine. If you're running 100 all the time, that is not. I had the APR chip for about a month and didn't really like it. I'm going to try GIAC-X soon. I can let you know if I like that better.

The APR 93 chip made the car harder to drive smoothly in first and second gears. I also got a little bit of fuel cut.

    Re: Apr 93 or 91.

whats around you more often? if its 93 than go with 93, if the only 93 gas station is xxx miles away and you can never really fill up, than go with 91.

In CA, 91 is only available so, thats what you have to get.

93 will have better results, more boost, put up timing, etc, but if you dont have a gas station then this is irrelevant.

    best of luck

Reeaaaly! If you think APR is bad, I'd watch out for Revo. That one seemed less smooth by far (did the trial then bought APR)

It would take much more than a 93 chip, to hurt a 2.0. These motors are stout.

I would do the highest possible readily available in your area, e.g. 93 Octane if the majority of the stations in your area carry it. In the eastern half of Texas, premium is 93. I live east of the "93 Octane Line" (that's what I call it), so that's the chip I have.

You guys usually run on the apr software all the time?

wondering if I can engage it when I want, or does the car have to be turned off...

    Re: Apr 93 or 91.

Had the 93 program installed on my B7 at about 12,000 miles, and other than dealer service, have NEVER taken it out of the 93 program. About 20K miles later. Never had a problem (knocks wood). You cycle in and out of the programs with APR by keying the ignition when the car is not running, and following the instructions (they will provide) with your PIN, that you enter using the cruise control stalk. Pretty simple.

so, switching from using the chip to stock is easy to do? Is there quite a noticeable difference when using it?

Yes it is easy and yes it is noticeable. I'll have to trust APR that the gain is around 40 HP and to nearly 300 ft/lbs torque. Seat of my pants tells me about 3 maybe 4 tenths improvement to 60 mph. I had a stock '01 Mustang 4.6 GT, and I think the Audi on 93 performs about the same 0-80.
