    misfiring problems

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i had a local shop take a look at my car, as it sounds like its diesel.
they plugged it in and found one cylinder is misfiring and theres a random misfire somewhere. and an oxygen sensor is bad.

i changed my plugs and wires. next step is the coil pack.

think this will solve the problem? or might it be something more difficult to fix?

    Re: misfiring problems

Swap the coil pack on the misfiring cylinder with a good one... if the misfire follows the coil pack then replace it.

    i dont have individual coils.
its a 30V V6 so its just a single pack.

    well, replaced the coil pack.
$207 later, still sounds like its misfiring.

i dunno what else to do now

    Re: misfiring problems

lol me and u got the same problem bro. i changed my plugs coil pack, close 2 dropping 1K now.. let me save u some money and tell u to check ur igniter module, dats what the mechanic told me to do. its the reason the car has sudden misfires and makes my car sound like a diesel, pluse it shakes and is embarrassing to drive around, pluse my cars hp goes down when it starts acting up. its like it goes in and out. one min im struggling 2 reach 45 mph and when it kicks back in 2 shape my car pulls out of nowhere its really annoying. but yah check it out get at me to see if u get that fixed.. il let u know how it goes

as long as you installed all the plug wires and such correctly your ignition source isn't the issue. Obviously check for spark at the misfiring cylinder though.

You need fuel, air and heat/spark to cause combustion, have you checked compression of the faulty cylinder? Otherwise swap fuel injectors or at least make sure that fuel injector is receiving a signal from the ECM.

The 30V V6's should have their ICM built into the coil pack assembly(IIRC), he changed that already. 1.8T and 2.7T's have the igniter/ICM on top of the air box.

    Re: misfiring problems

finally an answer on the icm.
i'm going to do the compression test this week, gotta find someone who's got the tool.

i have the same exact problems as FknChizA4.
sounds like diesel, shakes, and it just sucks to be the kid with the audi, and have it not run right. lol

    Re: misfiring problems

    k. i got it tested and changed my plugs, also coil packs, they run the air pressure test on all 4 cylinders n code says cylinder number 2 is the prob. so we looked at the ignition module which sits on top of my intake, and if we wiggle it just right the car will go from diesel to normal ... seems like one of my wires might be fucked up some where down the line, kinda like an old charger that u gota hold in a wierd way just to be able to charge ur phone datz how my car acts... i looked up igniter module and it says that it is the reason for sudden misfires and makes it look like ur plugs and coil pack might have gone bad.. so do u still think that might be my prob ??? P.S hipring have u tried wiggiling the IG module c if ur car goes from diesel 2 normal??

    Re: misfiring problems

i had the same problem with my 98 a4 2.8q tiptronic back in august, as cylinders 4 and 6 both misfired due to cracked lines and had to have both of those replaced. the bucking was caused by that and thus as you both described, for the car to shake a lot, and it not being responsive at times.

    i don't recall any backfiring...just some sputtering.
and i looked into it and there is no ICM on the 2.8

    Re: misfiring problems

Im having the same problem. It started about 2 weeks ago. Car sputters and backfires at low rpm under load (usually in 2nd or 3rd) and if i floor the gas i get the flashing CEL (as expected) and jerky acceleration. Hiprings how long did it take you to change the coilpacks? Where exactly is it located? I really dont want to be dropping 150 on new coils... Why couldn't i have a 1.8 and swap the one thats bad...
