Top VAG-COM MODS - Post your best!
I just got a VAG-COM cable from (ubs version from ebay $17) and installed the shareware version of the VAG-COM software. Thinking about getting the full $99 version.

In any event, I'd like to know what some folks think the best VAG-COM mods are. Post the mod description and coding if you know it. I'll start.

REMOTE AUTO WINDOWS and ONE TOUCH LOCKS - B7
This is a great, simple mod that turns your remote key into a handy window closing and opening tool. When approaching a sauna of a car on a hot day, hold down UNLOCK and all windows drop down. When leaving the car, if the windows are open (or sunroof), hold LOCK on remote and all will close. Also, all 4 doors now lock or unlock with one touch on the remote, as opposed to having to click twice for passengers.

    46 - Central Conv
    Recode - 07
Software Coding from 11820 to 11896

here's my car so I don't get flamed for not posting a pic, even though irrelevant!

Re: Top VAG-COM mods - Post your best!

If someone can figure out how to make the MFD show actual tire pressure i will paypal them $100. It is possible with VAG-COM on the Touareg, but i've had no luck on the A4.

Back to the original question...there are a few listed in the FAQ sticky. Besides the remote windows, i like the dash headlamp indicator so i know when the auto lights have turned on.

Seat belt chime disable is great.

I did the remote windows and one touch lock and noticed that I have to be much closer to the car for the windows to operate than to unlock the car. It doesn't make sense to me at all why that is.

You need the full version of VCDS for this but adaptation channel #19 in the instrument cluster lets you enable a menu to change the units shown in the DIS - can choose metric or imperial and change on the fly

Mine already has that, if you mean choosing miles or KM, *F or *C? And i can choose 12 or 24 hour clock. I'm like 99% sure the previous owner didn't do any vag-com'ing either.

If that's all you want to do then you can buy the $15 cable and it works fine. Unless you want to do other things.

I think your thinking of the city light with fog mod that can be found here.
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=124446

And to have your high beams and fogs on at the same time all you have to do is VAG your headlight to the Euro setting.

Re: Top VAG-COM mods - Post your best!

Yesterday was a little victory for me...
As many of you might know, I have my car stripped a bit...or more...

Well, 5 AirBags are missing, two rear side passengers ( which was extra )
the drivers one (on the steering wheel)
and the two front side airbags...

So I had a light AIRBAG on...

I managed to turn all five of them of from the Vag-Com, BUT there still was an AIRBAG fault on...I searched and it said Passenger Seat Occupation Sensor fault
I couldnt understand why at first, but then went to Coding, and set the car hadnt this sensor at all, and VOILA, done, and no fault light on anymore...hehehe...

isn't this standard in the menu setup of the DIS? I did mine just by flicking through the list in setup when I brought the car from the US to CDA

Re: Top VAG-COM mods - Post your best!

According to the "Vag-Com Codes" section of the B7 A4 New Member Guide/FAQ:

*Bonus 1* Enable Dashboard Headlight Indicator
    Module 17 (Instruments), recode to ??###, where ?? = [existing 2 digit value - 2]

NOTE - This mod tested on bi-xenon cars only; halogen cars may not work as intended.
I re-coded my headlights to rest-of-world so the corner indicator only lights when turning, turned off the seatbelt chime, enabled one-touch unlock, and remote windows, but didn't do this dash headlight indicator. It does concern me some times in dusk conditions so I'll have to do this next time. Can anyone confirm it works with halogen cars?

From what I know, in order to have citylights and fogs work at the same time, you have to do some electrical work. That's what I did.

As far as I know, not possible. Keep in mind that many of the control modules in newer VW's (Mk5 GTI/GLI/Jetta/Rabiit, Touareg, Tiguan, Passat) are much more complex than ours and allows for many more coding options. That's why VAG-COM uses a long coding helper function for those modules.
