Smile My Big Turbo Build Thread....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
..... and god damn, their tech was soo damn nice!

i sat on the phone with him for like 20 minutes and he explained me 23525 things that i had asked him. And it was pretty good. Good to know companies dont mind chatting on the phone with you, or maybe he was bored

well in any case i have made up a little list of things for my GTRS setup that i want to start collecting to go forward.. all you BT/BAT guys chime in if i forgot something or PM me if u wanna sell something.. thanks again...

    GTRS Elim Kit(With all hardware)

    Revo Big Turbo upgrade

    Genesis 550cc Injectors w. harnesses

FMIC (Any suggestions, i just repainted and fixed my bumper so dont want to hack it up.. can i go dual sidemount/upgraded SMIC or no)

    ATP/034 Turbo Manifold

B5S4 Front Brake Upgrades (SS Lines, Slotted/Drilled Rotors/Nice Pads)

    H&R Springs with Bilstein Shocks

IE/Scat Rods 19mm (i think thats the stock size, and i want these for assurance.. better safe then sorry, engine has 61,xxx miles)

Full Timing belt kit from ECS Tuning

already have a custom Magnaflow exhuast, going to add Testpipe+Custom Downpipe + QTP Exhaust cutout

    Custom TIP by Shawn

also to replace- head gasket, OEM head bolts, valve cover gasket, oil pan sealent, and rod bearings...

ofcourse a good ol' coolant flush with fresh new G12

    Full oil Change

    New spark plugs

all new set of Coil Packs (latest revision)

anything else am i missing? i want to make sure everything is installed in one go, no half assing and ofcourse you know its perfect. that i have no problems.. does sound right to everyone?

i know its a big project but im slowly collecting parts for it... going to do the suspension/FMIC/and rods/TB etc etc at once, then the turbo and exhuast at the same time. Hopefully the next 6 months ill have my whole kit set.. and by March/April/May ill have all the parts ready for a super duper build!!! so i can go ahead and get it all installed with no missing nuts or bolts...

And i def want a complete stealth look. No FMIC poking out nothing.. All Grilles will be intheir position. Compelte stealth. I loved being all flashy, but i dont know.. the stealth look might look pretty sweet.

if i forgot anythind please do let me know.. and if you guys are selling anything do let me know...

and my ultimate goal is to atleast get 280AWTQ on 93 octane on a stock Torque Converter..... yes it yes..

    Thanks again in advance guys!

(oh and if someone says not worth it/its a stupid tip/or go bigger... 1- ur not worth it, 2- ur a stupid tip and 3- i dont have 10k to blow on a full motor build.. thank you come again)

Re: My Big Turbo Build Thread....

Who did you talk to on the phone?

Didn't you already have a thread about this?

FMIC or go home. Don't dink around with a SMIC set-up on a Garrett 28series turbo. ER competition. NJ gets hot and humid in the summer.

also to replace- head gasket, OEM head bolts, valve cover gasket, oil pan sealent, and rod bearings...
Err... I'm confused.. You're planning on new connecting rods or just bearings? Really want to get new connecting rods?

Next spring I can help you install everything. Already got a GTRS install lined up for a fellow AZ'r around that time.

and yes, i did do a thread but that was probing ideas and options. this im doing. like steady homework.. going to talk to ASP about their FMIC... maybe even a custom tune.. no need i mean i can get one for 200 from shawn/revo... butttt worth a try lets see. .maybe i can squeeze out a little more from the tune.. and cmon. its fun to brag being a TIP with a custom tune lol

thanks hahaha i'd sell them, but i'm pretty partial to them now... i was considering it when i needed the money, and i may consider it again down the road. you'll be the first to know if i do.

and as far as a custom intercooler - talk to shawn about where he got his core (i think straight from garrett) and how much, then you just need to see what getting end tanks and pipes will run you. i picked up a decent sized/quality core on ebay for stupid cheap (70 bucks shipped) and then got custom pipes done at a local shop. (ran me about 350 or 400)

yeah, the pipes were expensive (probably way more than they should have been) but i still came out WAY below what a normal intercooler kit costs and i've got the pipes more or less where i want them and with minimal bends/length. (which was a big deal to me at the time)

the only downside is i don't have room for my drivers side foglight anymore so i took them off w/the bumper... but depending on how you do all the piping you may or may not be able to keep yours (if going the custom route)

If you go that route you might as well just go with their T25 flange GT28RS kit. Comes with the FMIC.

When we installed the fmic on gregs car I only had to grind off a small piece of plastic on the bumper that sits right behind the center grill, the center grill does not have to come off. Greg had already taken his off once before and we only left it off because we were going to the track right after we installed he fmic.

The only other spot I had to cut was a small notch in the radiator support right were hot side pipe sits, did it so the pipe would not rub against it.

how about clutch? and i assume your doing Revo software.

i would do ARP rod bolts, and head bolts only a little more than oem and reusable.

And go into debt for buying car parts? I suggest you put some money aside for the car parts once the other debt is paid off.

Yes, as discussed in the past... I'll be happy to help once you are financially ready.

btw i was going to do the asp kit.. but i spoke to home and around 300 whp/3oo wtq is kind of crap for 5000-6000 plus 2k for install? i rather do a 71r elim... and hit that number.. and for a SHIT lOAD cheaper.. for that pric i can do a 3071/3076
    Nice attitude to have!

Doesn't matter who's kit you go with. You're not going to get more than 280-ish awhp on 93octane with the stock AMB motor. The pistons and connecting rods just can not handle it.

    2) 10 years... honestly.. no thats wy too long... haha. i gotta see hwo man more years.. atleast 1 more year that i know... but even then i dont know.. maybei get a raise and get rid of it.. but then if i get raise i could afford to lose some cash.. soo.. yeah i guess ill keep it for another 1 year ATLEAST.

    3) it does make me happy.. my girlfriend thinks i have the fastest car in the world and its soo cute when she like talks shit to her friends about my car haha i love it.. and its always fun seeing another audi/euro guy on the road.. either pulling on them or the classic thumbs up

    4) im crazy enought to do a lot of things.. i wont go into that.. but i think i can handle this.. i just need to get rid of this buyers remorse that I ALWAYS GET!!!

Re: My Big Turbo Build Thread....

Am planning to go GTRS as well, but I decided one thing:

Save up for the costs of EVERYTHING as ONE single check (say $6000), and buy EVERYTHING at once with the best deals available. Install everything with the least time and efforts, end of story.

So till then, am staying out.

You never know, something can unfortunately happen to the car (blown engine, accident, tranny, car stolen, u name it), and if you are half way into buying parts, then you are stuck with 3 grands worth of stuff that would be hard to return/sell.

    Good luck with it!

I got a used GTRS kit from a fellow AZ'r and had 440cc greentops. But I've decide to sell them and get genesis 550cc with the harness adaptors ($380). Having a dual spray pattern compared to a single spray pattern for the 440's greentops. The result should be a smoother idle and power. I know David ran them without any problems for a while. No exactly sure but I think you have to ask for the REVO 550 BT file went sending the ECU to get flashed. Maybe Shawn or Greg could chimi in.

Waiting for spring to come around and install my parts with another AZ'r .

And you are extremly lucky to have Dougyfresh and AudiA4 20T close to you .

Re: My Big Turbo Build Thread....

I thought the deal with the greentops was to make sure they are flow-matched properly? I think Greg's are but I can not remember what Shawn did with his. Anyway, 550s provide you with more overhead room so that is only good news. I ran 630s with my GT28RS and am still using the 630s on my 2.0L.

If you put together a plan and start putting money aside you'll be able to slowly aquire the parts needed. That is how most of us have done it. Its a dreadful tease to see those parts on your desk {clint... 35R on your keyboard..} but sometimes that is how things work if you're searching for deals.

I have a ton of parts in my basement but no car to put them on. haha.
