Is that what that damn sound is? When do you hear it? I hear a total clunk/rattle when I run over the reflectors on the road. Sounds like the freakin suspension is going to fall out. Dealer of course couldn't help.

I had this problem and it went away when I had the front brake pads replaced. Maybe an issue with the clips?

Mine have an annoying chirp over bumps. But they're not getting replaced until they wear, then I will do a pad change new with S4 Rattle clips and G2 the calipers.

Mine used to squeek, now they clunk when i hit bumps, or when i back into the garage and hit the brakes they clunk. Dealer said Audi is aware of the problem but does not have a fix for it. I was gonna do pads and rotors if it fixes it.

I've done both pads and rotors and it's still there. Therefore-the calipers are probably not to blame. Sounds like there's loose suspension somewhere and my car has done this since new.

You have the ECS clips too, right? That was supposed to help with clicking noise...

    I have the same problem.

Its the caliper brackets according to Audi which are considered a wear item....$200 each plus install. So about 6 or 7 bills.

Re: Anyone ever find a fix for the clunking calipers.

I have ECS Tuning Rotors and Hawk pads and it makes a clinking noise over bumps. Took it to the dealer thinking it was the suspension, they changed my upper bushings. The drive home from the dealer i still heard the noise and took it back it. Now they told me its coming from my brake pads, which i guess their right considering this thread. Im picking it up today at 3:30.

I want to get the S4 anti rattle clip, but on ECS tuning website it says "Direct replacement for cars with OEM brakes..." Will it still work with mine?

    If you're talking about these...

...I have them, (purchased from dealership) they "do not" stop the rattle. I don't even know why ECS calls them anti-rattle clips. They will, however, fit you stock calipers.

Re: Anyone ever find a fix for the clunking calipers.

I used search, so bringing this back from the dead...

I also noticed a "clunk" when I roll up to a stop when in neutral. It only clunks once - right before I come to a stop. Anybody else know what this could be? I'm scheduled for a visit to Audi on Monday - but don't want to get charged if it is something not covered.

Sounds louder on the driver's side, could just be me since I sit there. I have the newer S4 clips - stock brakes/pads - 24k.

    TIA.

BTW, I also have the glove box issue (they told me interior is not covered along with my peeling button).

Re: Anyone ever find a fix for the clunking calipers.

not sure about audi calipers, but on VW R32 calipers, there was a clunking issue with the brakes due to the break down/wearing out of the bushings of the caliper where the caliper pins slide in/through the caliper.

not sure if that's been looked at yet or if audi calipers have the same round bushings, but it's worth a shot

Re: Anyone ever find a fix for the clunking calipers.

I use to have the 'chirp' when going over bumps. I commented on another thread regarding this issue and it appears that getting those 'S4' clips helped many remedy this problem.

However, when I went to my Audi dealer (the dealer in Naperville, IL whom I highly recommend over McGrath Audi in Glenview/Skokie, IL to anyone in the area), they basically said it was a result of some lubricant drying up over time in the caliper. They said it was no big deal and that the 'chrip' that develops poses no risk or threat to anything going wrong with the breaks/calipers themselves. They ended up recommending me not to buy the S4 caliper clips and instead they reapplied whatever lubricant had dried up.

After they did that (at no cost) whalahh, no more chirp since then. This was months ago and I don't remember what kind of lubricant they mentioned it was but clearly there is a solution other than purchasing the S4 caliper clips (which do look very nice, by the way).

Re: Anyone ever find a fix for the clunking calipers.

My issue is a clunk (sorta like a wheel bolt slopping around). Is this the same as the "chrip"? Mine is intermittent and only when I slow to a stop...

Re: Anyone ever find a fix for the clunking calipers.

the calipers are bolted in place. its the pads shifting back and forth. some brands have tighter tolerances than others.. dont worry about it

but i sure do want some s4 brake clips, i just cant justify dropping $125 for something i will probably be the only one to notice

I have the OE pads and OE brakes - there's only 24k on my car. You'd think that if they are worn down a little they wouldn't clunk.

Re: Anyone ever find a fix for the clunking calipers.

You are missing the spring clips on the calipers. They will only stay on if you have the correct brake pads. Some of the aftermarket pads dont have the retaining clips to hold the spring in. I had this problem and had to buy new OEM pads and caliper springs.
