    Time for a new car...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I'm sitting at a red light today and some girl who just got her drivers license yesterday decided she wasn't going to stop. So the little red light rebel proceeded to thrust her car into the back of mine. I'm pretty pissed off right now but happy that everyone is ok. Now I am looking at B5 and B6 S4s. I like the B5 for the easy modding ability but the B6 is newer and still quick.

B5= More prone to problems maintainance-wise
    B6= Less power potential.

Weigh costs and rewards and get what you REALLY want.

B5 is more sportier looking than the b6. I dont think they look outdated, i have people left and right asking me if mines brand new. You can find a lot of b5 s4's in excellent condition and if you are really looking to mod, do you want a twin-turbo engine or a v8? b6's are nice and newer, but who cares about the year of the car. Anyways have fun choosing! You should test drive a b5 stage III s4 and a b6 s4 see which one you like better

thats the way i'm going. much updated look, gorgeous interior, although they are all nice. plus the 2.0t with a six speed can get some nice power even with chip, exhaust, etc. not too hard to get over 250, even close to 300, to the wheels with a ko4. and they are so sexy in an avant body.

    if you want a v8 - get a s5
if you want a car that's nice, and easy to mod for a medium power level - get a b7a4
if you want a car with the most potential, but highest overall cost - get a b5s4

I always wonder how new drivers fuck up like. When I first got my license I was so stoked I was extra cautious cuz I knew if I did what they girl did I wouldn't be driving for years. For some ppl like this chick, it seems more like they think, "Yay I can finally drive and talk on the cell phone at the same time!"

Re: Time for a new car...

personally i would get a new 6 cylinder tt and turbo it or something(since the 2.0t is only available in auto), but that is a good chunk of change that a totalled a4 probably(deffinatly) wouldnt be worth.

deffinatly a shitty situation. accidents suck. ask me how i know haha. glad everyone is alright and good luck with your quest for a new ride!

    care to explain:

A)how any car that isn't pink or covered in stereotypical girl stickers looks like a girl car? (especially an a4)

    and B)how k04's are more reliable (especially on a b5s4) than k03's?

(oh, and we won't get into "normal stuff" for a b5s4 here... i don't want to TOTALLY discredit your post)

Re: Time for a new car...

i would love a b5 s4, but at the same time would love a b6 s4. I test drove a stock b6 s4 last week, and on the streets it doesnt feel any faster than my 04 1.8t (apr stage 1+, apr TIP & Forge 007), but man that thing gets up to 140 pretty quick on the highway. And the b6 s4 also sounds sick with either a corsa or milltek cat back! on the other hand, a b5 s4 is well over 300hp and tq with just a simple tune from APR, now seeing that its TT'd stock, u get to play around with them and get some real nice numbers....in the end tho its still a b5, however if you get the right color combo and mod it nicely...you will earn some nice respect. hard decision

Re: Time for a new car...

i originally wanted a B5 S4 but after finding out how difficult the car was to work on the B6 A4 was my final choice. I have had my turbo out more then ten times, it takes only a couple hours, you have to pull the engine to do that on an S4.

S4's are hot as hell but unless you have mucho $$$$ to support the car after you buy it i would recommend you stay away.

how many stage 3 guys have 50k miles of absolutely RIPPING on their cars like most of the chipped s4 owners? oh, and you're forgetting that that's 50k miles chipped + however many miles were on the car before hand... most people put NEW k04's on their car. (and how much of a difference is there between a k03 and k04 to begin with? ...not much)

keep in mind - a stock s4/a6 will still blow the turbos between 80 and 120 depending on the driver...

not to mention, you're only considering the longevity of the turbos... you seem to have forgotten the rest of the beast that is the 2.7T and all the b.s. that's bolted to it. it is simply not a reliable car in any form - let alone stage 3... that's just how shit like this works.

to add, if you do everything right the K04 Turbos are reliable turbos.
the other things that break can be annoying if you dont know how to do them yourself.

here are all quotes from s4 owners saying k04s are much more reliable
Like rcjustin said, just buy a K04 S4 and be done with it. You'll save yourself a lot of money in the long run, especially since doing K04s is a labor intensive job which could cost you up to $3K in labor alone assuming you don't do the work yourself. The best part about a K04 S4 which a lot of people overlook is that it's actually more reliable than a K03 S4 due to the fact that K03s can and do blow all the time while K04s are stone axe reliable.
K04s are reliable, when compared to K03s but when matched up against a comparable Garrett turbo, they fall short. Not to say the K04 isn't a good turbo, just saying there are better options.
I would say about the same w/ more power. But the power advantages only come when you go full stage 3 or higher. The best advantage to K04's is they should last a long long time. The spool seems about the same. Spool speeds can vary w/ your DP and exhaust setup tho

Re: Time for a new car...

On a chipped B5 S4, sure the K04 will last longer since they aren't worked as hard as K03s at higher boost.

Re: Time for a new car...

^but on a full stage 3 car k04's will not last any longer than k03's do on a normal s4.

I'm saying it comes with the territory, and that is not something that anyone disputes. You build a 450-500awhp car that runs high 11's and you WILL break shit. turbos are just part of the shit you break.

btw, none of what they said was backed by anything more than "they're reliable" ...anyone have mileage figures showing how much longer they last? (tone = curious)

LOL I got a ride in a friends b5 s4 stg1 and it was much faster than my car :))) I cant actually imagine the stg3. Btw there are a couple of stg 3 for sale for less than 18k. But their reliability is quetion. P.S. there is a guy in Midwest forum selling his stg3 nogaro blue avant.
