    ATX Dubs

As an entrepreneurship major at my university I have been toying around with with several ideas of what type of business I would like to start. Seeing as I am in my third year and almost a senior hours wise, i really wanted to get an idea off the ground. What i have come up with so far is a local company, local to Austin Texas at least, that manufactures top quality exhaust and intercoolers for VWs and of course Audis. These products will be a "mirror image" of the best products currently available; made of the same quality materials only sold at a lower price making them available to anyone.

My inspiration for this comes from myself. Being a college student I do not have a lot of extra $$$ to spend on my a4, and as we all know you have to pay to play, and pay nice or pay twice. So i thought, why dose anyone have to shell out an arm and a leg just have a quality aftermarket piece?? So I have began researching, developing, and manufacturing (all locally, and green of course ) many of the most desirable exhaust and cooling components for our vehicles.

Any feedback, comments, or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and support.
I hope to be serving you very soon!

I wish you luck but your product will be just another fish in the sea. In order to make it, and well, in the economy right now you have to have a product that stands alone, not just another choice for something to put on your car. ESPECIALLY with the lack of ANY reputation for your product.

    Re: ATX Dubs

reputation or not, if you offered a, say, $500 bolt up intercooler it would sell.....we all know how the forums work, if someone goes crazy for a product then we all run out and buy it.

make sure you know how tig and mig weld...and source quality for parts for cheap

But, think outside the box on this one

    Re: ATX Dubs

you must also know... my father owning a lot of business and Shawn can also tell you.. to start a company you need capital/investors. Its hard work, and lots of hours. To manufacture something as well is not going to be cheap. Keep in mind, cost of materials has takin a nice little rise.. so do think about it and do some extensive research and plan out a heavy loss chart. So you know what you will get yourself into.

also rep wise.. you just need your product to be good. Hand it out to about 5 people on the forums.. and let them tell about your product. And if ur product is ahit its going to sell. Look at Winston (Podi) great product, and he got it through the forums (sales).

so its all about satisfying your customer, your price can be cheap, but quality and other things are a big factor too. If buy an intercooler for 500, but if i can get one for 800 and its better quality, i rather spend the 300.

Now are these going to be brand stamped or are you going to take a garret/precision core and make piping/endtanks.

    Re: ATX Dubs

As of right now, and i am still in the process of figuring out the cost and all other options like you said, but i will be using a known, brand name core with custom end tanks, and piping. The problem i have run into now has to deal the power steering cooling line.

    Re: ATX Dubs

Starting this thread today really motivated me, and I made a lot of progress. Ive got a 18"x9"x2.5" core which should be ready in two weeks, it'll measure about 26 inches with the end tanks with 2.5" Inlet/outlets. I also have company that will make a prototype silicone hose piping like the OCT kit. Ill keep yall updated.

Maybe while making zero profit or at a loss. The parts alone will add up to $400+ and then add in all the time for welding and testing. Plus making a jig. It isn't like the companies that make FMIC kits now are getting rich selling them.

well if its a knock off pile of shit, no, lol, there is sensability involved here. Its called both of us delivering on our promises here. i would never install anything on my car that is a pile of junk. I have more common sense than that being a benz technician for christ sake.

    Re: ATX Dubs

and really this is alot of speculation at this point, but its good that this guy is getting his head out there and seeing what he can do to serve the audi community and his fellow enthusiast. But any good buisness is going to keep the bottom line in check. So im very very intrested to follow this along and see how it turns out. +1 in my book for just the initial effort and schooling.

Thats how Racetec started and they pretty much sell the lowest priced FMIC kits on the market desiged for the A4.

    Re: ATX Dubs

As Mike said, dont you think there already would be such a product if it were possible. Machining and raw materials are at an all time high right now because of the economy and fuel charges so making something dirt cheap is going to result in a cheap, poor quality, inefficient product. I dont know though, I did hear that Racetec and ER's profits this year may possibly exceed Microsoft lol

Yes the core is on the smaller size, but thats the point. I trying to find a core that will fit with minimal cutting, but like i said this is just a prototype. Ive got something a little special in the works ; ) Yall just wait.

why not make a new rebar like ER offers? Than you can get anything you want without trimming.

glad to see something like this starting up...i hope it goes well and the business booms, but coming from an economic major, you cant be devastated if you show a loss for the first year or two...its going to take awhile for you to learn how the business works and then overtime youll learn to trim costs and such...if you put in the effort hopefully the return will be just as great!

    good luck!
