are big brakes really worth it on our cars? Yeah they look a million times better then the factory calipers but are they really necessary? our rotors look pretty damn big! I dont track my car, nor to i drive aggressively very often. I really only want them for aesthetic reasons, which in my mind doesn't justify spending 2k+

    Re: upgraded brakes

Just an opinion as I know nothing about breaks but have done some research on this. IMHO the rotors are definitely well sized. I don't know how well the clamping force is on the rotor but for me the stock breaks at least size wise seem more then enough

You don't need them at all. If you buy them, it will be based on looks alone.

If you don't track your car, chances are 99% you will be fine with stock brakes.
    Slow, stock, smurfy blue car.

Relax, I just troll this place for fun.

brakes not breaks but I know that you know this.

op, save your money as the S4's brakes are fine for the street.

    Re: upgraded brakes

You can always upgrade the rotors to slotted/drilled, and the pads to something that will resist fade a bit better, should you get the urge to auto-x it sometime. But yeah, the stock calipers and rotors are great.

Rotors are properly sized for street use. Pads however are junk in my opinion so you might want to invest a little there but don't go with ceramic if you decide to keep stock rotors.

    + SS brake lines

for a small sum of 2K I think you should get them, they look amazing…I know I will when I get some 19" to clear those suckers

the biggest attention getter on my altima are the brakes, people almost get into accidents staring at them on the freeway instead of paying attention to the road.

    Re: upgraded brakes

The only thing that needs to be changed is the rear caliper on the RS 4.

It looks like it came from a toyota.

I just got braided steel brake lines, had the brake fluid changed out to a higher boil temp fluid, and through some track pads on it... They work well on the track, and the only issue is the squeeling on the street. The pads dont get warm enough on the street.

I would have though that all of the companies selling products to do just this haven't pulled the wool over all of our eyes... But if I am wrong, please do explain.

    Re: upgraded brakes

    ^LMFAO.

    Seriously.

I was just getting into this with a ridiculous woman that had that "I'll disagree with you just to pick a fight" moment they somehow have (for some reason, all of the women that are reading this are the exceptions to the last statement and never have that issue !).

You can't type sarcasm without the smiley. It's the smiley's gift to the internet. Put one at the end of the post (perhaps with a "j/k") and it's fine to be a total ass!

    Re: upgraded brakes

any recommendations on street pads that will grip well and not fade to quickly? Are there aftermarket pads that work with our factory warning light? Any recommendations on rotors? where to get them from... etc.

Is it really worth getting RS4 rears? or is that for aesthetic reasons?

    Re: upgraded brakes

Isn't one benefit of upgrading brakes the fact that most kits are lighter weight than stock? Every little bit of unsprung weight you can reduce works wonders.

    This is true.

I have them, and the benefits are looks and weight, but there are NOT needed.

    Re: upgraded brakes

The pedal feel will be a bit different, but overall as everyone here has said performance gains on the street will be insignificant. Some Motul 5.1 and better pads will go a long way for the price. But they do look badass.

I didnt find the rotors that ECS has built (rom Coleman Racing) to hold up to track use. They have superwide air gaps and fewer directional vanes for cooling and couldnt take the heat near as well as the stock rotors.

    cheers! Mike

    Re: upgraded brakes

You can get the SS lines, fluid, and new pads like everyone else said. That should upgrade your brakes enough to the point where you'll be satisfied. However, if you have interest in any BBK let me know. We can do anything from Brembo to Alcons to AP Racing. And we're offering free shipping as well.
