new paint job. There are a few rust spots , nothing major or clean through, save for the tops of the front wheel wells. What should I be looking at for a fair price for a paint job. What should I look for and what should I ask for. I know it's a retarded question and I apologize, but I've never looked into repainting a car. I want the original color, nothing different just all new and shiny .... ya know?

Prices are all over the board so its a difficult question to answer. Alot of it depends on how long the painter is spending on his prep work, which is critical to a good job. I'm sure you could probably find a place like Maaco to do if for $199 but the quality is almost always terrible. That being said, I'd expect to pay somewhere in the area of $3-5k for a respray from a real body shop.

Some paint shops might be willing to give a discount if you do some of the prep work yourself such as paint strip and sanding. Ask around though.
