I've heard that for the price the Miltek is not worth it. Can you not have a test pipe where you live?

i have a tttuning HFc, have had no issues with it.
034 makes good products so really if i had to do it again it would be a flip of the coin.

the miltek is way over priced if you ask most people. the miltek is 200cell, while the tttuning and 034 are 250cell i believe.

Passed the New Hampshire emissions inspection.

Re: Poll - High Flow Cat - 034 or Techtonics Tuning?

i talked to labree motorsports about highflow cats when i was doing my exhaust. i was told by them that the average lifespan on them is about 1 1/2-2 years before having to replace it. i would do some research and talk to the companys who sell them to see what they say about it and how long it would last. that would be one of the main things i would care about buying a HFC.

uh what, catalytic converters should last almost the life of the car if the engine is running perfectly.

Re: Poll - High Flow Cat - 034 or Techtonics Tuning?

The Fast Intentions HFC's work, but you will still get a CEL, as they dont work well enough....

The Milltek is a more sophisticated design-

Your original catalytic converter will typically have 400 or 600 cells per square inch (cpsi), these original cats are restrictive in their flow, typically allowing an open area of around 55-65%.

A Milltek Sport Hi-flow Sports Cat which will be fully integrated into a large bore downpipe, has only 100-200 cpsi depending on application. These cats have an open area of between 75-85%, thus reducing back pressure substantially and increasing flow rates, all very desirable for extracting more performance, especially on turbocharged engines. Emission levels are maintained at legal limits by careful selection of the volume of the metallic substrate.

The honeycomb is held together by using a special nickel-based brazing material which is applied in a vacuum. The finished honeycomb is then coated with Aluminum Oxide, some rare earth metals and Platinum and Rhodium. The Platinum and Rhodium are applied at a rate of 25 grams per cubic foot, which compares with between 5 and 10 grams per cubic foot for typical US aftermarket items.

It is normal practice in Europe to use much higher quantities of precious metals on catalysts, because European gasoline has more impurities in it which gradually poison catalysts. If catalysts with such high levels of precious metals are used with US fuels, the post-catalyst emissions are extremely low and the durability of the catalysts is very good indeed.

This is why it costs more....more rare metals of Platinum and Rhodium, and a better design/quality.

They make it larger, to accomidate more flow, then increase the rare metals so it cleans better, and at 200 cells per inch, it does so better than any US made HFC!

This is one time US tuners should take a close look at the Milltek, and follow their lead!

Maybe then we could get a lower priced HFC, which performs as well, but is built here in the US, and not have to pay the difference because of the dollars poor showing against the EURO!

    034 ftw.

i'd still recommend that you get a TP over a HFC though

Ok now if the HFC wont get rid of the CEL and therefore won't pass emissions, is there any accurate estimate as to how well it actually "cleans" the exhaust? Is one brand better than the other (regardless of cost)?

For some of us tree huggers, a test pipe is just not an option. Pollution is bad enough as it is, I try my best to limit my contributions.

    Flame away.
