    Exhaust... Bolt or Weld?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was calling around today to get an install quote on my Magnaflow cat-back. I told one of the mechanics that this exhaust directly bolts on. He said that it will come loose and eventually rattle. I would like to bolt instead of weld it on because of resale value.

Any thoughts as to which is better? Bolt or weld?

Bolting won't come loose if you use no nylon locking nuts, with lock washers.

    Re: Exhaust... Bolt or Weld?

bolt it on... the bolts expand when heated (ie running your car) and i'm sure it wont rattle... between me, my brother, and my friends, we've put around 30 exhausts on and none of us has a welding machine. everything is good.

    Re: Exhaust... Bolt or Weld?

WTF! that guy is retard, its actually the other way around lol, if you straight weld it on the exhaust cant move on the donut and will crack and break the welds, now you can install a flex pipe in the exhaust so that dont happen, but then your just straight ghetto riggin your exhaust lol, there is a reason why every oem exhaust bolts on, i suggest just do it yourself and save some money its really not very difficult.

Yep, the type of locknut is called a "Prevailing Torque" lock nut. They are crimped to grip the bolt threads.
