    Oil on diverter - normal?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had to give up putting in my Forge 007 for the night. Those one time use clamps got the best of me - will regroup and try again tomorrow.

I notice that the two larger DV hoses were wet with oil (on the outside). It looked like it was pretty old oil because it was black. It also wasn't very thick - almost like black water. I just changed my oil a week or two ago, and the level is exactly where it was when I changed it.

Is it normal for that area to get oily?

Pretty normal to see oil residue in the intake tract on any turbo car. Especially when boost is above stock.

thanks for the reply. I guess I'm concerned because when looking at Martini's pics on A4mods.com, his DV area is dry and pretty.

I'm thinking about changing to the Forge 007 myself, and am looking for some info on a DIY.

What are you using for guideline? Any suggestions would be great once you get it installed.

    Good luck

Re: Oil on diverter - normal?

Forge has a decent writeup on their website - a4mods.com has one too. It's pretty easy to see how to do it once you get under there. The hard part is just getting the clamps off the old one. The spacing sucks - I have a cordless dremel and couldn't position it to slice off the crimped part of the clamps. I'm going to use snips tomorrow.

    Gotcha, thanks for the heads-up.
I thought I read somewhere that the old clamps should 'pop' right off with a screwdriver, but I guess not!

What kind of clamps will you use for the install?

installing the dv is not hard. those clips are best taken off with a grinder. trust me it took me forever and i resorted to a small grinder and just grind them off carefully. after that use pipe clamps and you'll be set. its not hard to do just pull off the belly pan and the DV is just behind the fan on the front right of the car by that radiator.

oldguy sent me a PM with a link to this thread - a screwdriver should do it - going to try this method tomorrow. oldguy rocks - always there with a humble PM to point us in the right direction.

I have two worm clamps that will fit the large hoses, but I'm probably just going to use zip ties since I'll have to take the thing back out to service it later on. Although - worm clamps might be easier to take back off than snipping the zip ties. Guess I'll decide when I'm under the car tomorrow!

Re: Oil on diverter - normal?

Finally got the damn thing installed. The screwdriver method wouldn't work on the clamps - I just couldn't position the screwdriver the right way given the way the clamps were turned. Used snips and dremel.

Also - I figure out the name of the other thing that has oil on it - the boost reservoir. What would oil around that area point to? It's like black water - on the bolts to the boost reservoir and generally around that area.

I don't have any symptoms other than the residue all over - my boost and vac levels are normal, idle is super smooth, driving is normal, plugs looked fine when I changed them, no drips on the driveway, oil level staying constant, coolant looks good, no smoking or burning smells...

Are you talking about that metal thing that is bolted to your engine block, that connects to the DV pipping?

Well, your threadjack gave me a bump at least.

To answer your question, no! I had to go to my local tuner to buy one for 3 bucks. Do you have a Forge distributor or tuner nearby? They should have them laying around.

Any more thoughts on oil residue around the boost reservoir area?

crap. I wonder if it's a leaky hose or something. The bad thing about our belly pans is that they can probably hold half a quart of oil, so who knows if I have a slow leak or not!

I might crawl underneath again this weekend and take some pictures. That'll also give me an idea of how bad it is because I wiped it all down when I was doing the DV.

Like mentioned above. It's normal to see oil residue around the dv, keep in mind everybody drives in different enviorments. Its also common to see oil residue in the intercooler pipes.
