fuse tap question, and a few pics

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I used a fuse tap for my V1 hardwire into ECU fuse, works fine both get power. So I bought one for the dual VEI gauge and found that the windshield wiper fuse was switched so I would try that.

The problem is if I use the fuse slot closest to the wire (on the left in the picture below) I only get power to VEI and not the wipers. If I switch to the right slot in the picture, I get the reverse (power to wipers but not VEI gauge. I'm guessing I can't use this fuse then? Maybe I'll just tap both radar and gauge into ECU fuse, but that doesn't seem ideal.

Any suggestions would be great, and while I was taking pictures here are a couple of quick and dirty shots of the car since I never post them.

thanks, yeah RNS-E would be nice but lots of other things that need attention first.

anyone know how to make this work, or should I just run both radar and digital gauge off the ECU fuse?

Wire the radar onto the sunroof power wires (assuming you have it mounted up high near the rearview mirror). There is a DIY somewhere here on AZ if you search.

Do you have the Homelink system? I power my boost gauge lighting and XM receiver from that fuse via an add-a-circuit like the one in your pics. Homelink is switched power like you want.

Also - that wiper fuse seems awfully big for a gauge - does it need to be a 30?

don't really want to deal with the sunroof hardwire since I already ran the wire into my fuse box.

don't have homelink, and the wiper fuse is the only other switched power I found. no gauge I'm sure only needs 5 amp, so maybe I'll run both radar and gauge off ECU. The gauge won't draw much power.

Ill 3.0- Your stupid (don't take that seriously just kidding) But you need two fuses to occupy both spaces in the fuse holder. If you look at how the wires travel you will understand... If not, wrap the power wire around a leg of the fuses and stick stick it back in... This is a temporary setup...

ha, damn maybe I am stupid. I'm not sure why the other tap works then since I just have one fuse and radar and ecu are both getting power. That's why I thought the wiper power source might be unusual.

Re: fuse tap question, and a few pics

Tap off the ignition (blk) or accessory(ylw/blk) wire on the ignition harness. I don't like tapping other circuits...since you're not sure of the voltage/amperage needs of that circuit, and you don't want to introduce any new ground loops. I especially wouldn't tap off the ecu...voltage fluctuations aren't a good thing, even if the ecu uses a regulated power supply...

I sound like a mother... Either way, take it for what it's worth.

    I want your seats btw

...and where'd you get the red-stitched wheel?
