    Q's re: B6 S4 vs. B7 S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello folks -

I'm new on the board here and was originally looking to purchase a B7 A4. After much debate between the 2.0T and the 3.2, I considered, why not just get the S4 since the prices have come down quite a bit after the new ones came out? Further, I noticed a quite a price difference between the B7 and B6 S4's which brought me to wonder, why not the B6 S4?

    1. Both have the 340HP V8, correct?
    2. The front end of the B7 is the only thing I hands down prefer over the B6
    3. The interiors are very similar, which is what I love most about the car (all gen A4/S4's for that matter)
    4. Considering the B6... this opens up the possibility of getting a droptop as well.

Are there any other obvious differences between the B6 and B7 S4?

Obviously the rear end styling changed on the B7 as well, but as far as mechanicals, the only thing I know of would be that the B7 moved to an updated center Torsen T-3 differential, 40:60 front-rear torque split. B6 has 50:50

What kind of a difference are you talking? Is one quieter than the other?

I also like the interior of the cabrio more than the sedan.

I know the B6 is dual and the B7 is quad exhaust.

I remember reading that the B7 sounds bassier and is built differently. I've never compared personally.

I recently bought a B6 cabrio and I am really happy with it. I've never had a convertible before and I am now hooked. Nothing like putting the top down to relax and enjoy the fresh air. Go for a B6 cabrio!

I'll be a dick and correct you slightly... they both have duel exhaust, the B7 has quad tips.

    B6 styling >b7>b8, not a biased opinion.

true. Is there anything different other than the tips?

Not at all. I have a 25Q (the only B7 with dual tips) and if I want to buy an exhaust I just have to buy a B6 system so that it lines up with the bumper cutouts.

Another plus for the B6 - I don't intend on getting an aftermarket exhaust for the car and I think the quad tips busy up the rear end of an otherwise clean looking car quite a bit. The B6 is lookin' pretty good!

I'm not really going for the STEALTH look on my cabrio, and the badges compliment the rest of my B7 S4 accents.

But I guess to each his own...

I see why someone might debadge an A4 with mods, but I've never understood doing it to an S.

    2 each = his own

It's not a price tag...it's an engine configuration. Who cares?

P.S. let's see a pic of your car...based on your mods, it's ANYTHING but stealth! Got some 19 or 20" wheels too? thought so

I liked the clean look of a debadged S4, but I wont do it to mine. Its funny because around my area there are literally no other S4's, and I guess all the guys in their little A4's race a lot of people around here, so whenever someone sees me pull up in the rearview mirror with the rings they seem to want to race, and once I destroy them I show them my ass with my proud S4 tramp stamp and all they can do is cry.

    Great screen name!

stock b7 exhaust more agressive sounding than stock b6 exhaust. b7 three spoke steering wheel has audio control, the above mentioned power split (except on the 05.5's), and obvious cosmetic changes (b7 looks more updated and more in line with current Audi styling). less miles and more warranty with the b7.
