    Need Some Help Audiophiles!

    Ok All,

This is bugging the hell out of me. I have a set of MB-Quart Discus speakers (front and back) in my car, cross-overs and all. I have a large amp in the back to feed the sub and the rest of the system. I still have the factory head unit too (I like the non-cluttered look).

Within the past year, I've been noticing that the right side of the car is louder than the left. Of course, the first thing I do is check the balance and it's always dead center. I'll play with the balance and on some songs with a lot of mids (guitars, etc.), the left is not matching the right. I know that the songs I'm listening to are mixed to have everything equal, so it's not the song. I know I'm not going deaf in the left ear either

Any ideas at all are greatly appreciated! Ask questions if needed.

not sure what the problem is, but you could always replace the stock head unit to a unit that had time phase adjustment settings and not only will it fix your problem but also sound much better. if it's not possible to go that route it could be one of 3 things: 1) the speaker wire / connection is loose or stripped on, the left side , 2) one of the channels on your amp is busted, 3) you really are going deaf.

its probably the phase, as mentioned. the speaker mounting angles/locations makes a huge diff too

Switch the - and + around on the quiet side, it should pick the volume up (I think thats the right way)

Swap the phono leads round on the amp... if it is still happening then you can determine it's before the amp stage ie xover or source

I agree that one speaker or one set may be wired out of phase. This will create modal and nodal zones so various notes will be magnitudes louder or softer than others.

If you find that they are wired correctly then you can do some experimenting at the amp. Swap the left and right inputs and speaker outputs. See if that changes anything.
