Ok so I went to pick up my car after sitting for a while - my speakers are blown one in the front and one in the rear - I want to upgrade it all. Planning on an AVIC headunit but what about the speakers- with the bose system is there an oem amp? what do i need to know before i jump in on this. All the other cars I have had were basic systems that I just put the new headunit in and hooked the new speakers to existing harnesses

There is a amp... I believe in the trunk that runs the factory speakers.

You will also find a wire harness from Metra or Scosche that will allow you to hook up your AVIC while maintaining the factory amp, and it seems to work quite well.

As for just replacing the factory speakers... haven't done it yet. Maybe if you take them out you could find a similiar replacement from Parts Express?

If you would be wanting to upgrade it all, get some nice component speakers for the front and maybe in the back doors, loose the rear deck speakers and get subs, amplify it all and bypass the factory amp. I hope to be doing this soon.

I've read the procedure for removing the rear deck speakers, and it looks like a total PITA. WTF didn't Audi just make them removable from the bottom (i.e. the trunk) to make it a 5-min job is BEYOND me
