Talking Christmas came (very) early! Updates! (56k no no)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Over the past few weeks I've been doing a bit of shopping for my baby, so here's a teaser for the moment of some fun little things I bought!

What are those boxes in the car? Certainly not Flik wheels...

    Whats this?

It appears to be a custom euro plate!

I couldn't help but copy an RS4 plate:

    A tiny little box...

And it holds a 55 watt HID kit from DDM

The only thing I have yet to pick up are the new headlights, only cause the Post Office isn't open yet.

I will update with pics throughout the day. (better quality ones too)

Also, with the new wheels comes a new mod: no spare!

So am I, only the tire place managed to get my hood stuck closed. Not sure what they needed under the hood that had to do with mounting tires.... So now I can't get under the hood to install my HID or new headlights.

Anyone know how to fix? The hood pops, but thats it. It won't un-latch.

I did. I was like "I really don't understand why one of your employees would find it necessary to be looking under the hood."

Problem solved! Time to do a few installs!

Nope! :) they are my philipino mail order brides. I'm not big on sharing ladies.

Anyway, some of the wait is over. Here are the wheels! (and euro plate)

They weren't Fliks!!!! They are in fact the rare 17" OZ Superleggera's!

Whats this? A package from the fatherland? It sure is!

They are A5/S5 *style* headlights!!!!! As far as I know, I'm the first person in the US with these lights. If you don't like them or have something bad to say about them, don't say it.

Here's what they should look like when done:

Anyone care to help me out by knowing where the small blue brown and black connector goes (where in the car does it plug in)?

quick question....how do you get the euro plates on and are we allowed to drive around in them ALL the time?

I know in VA, its state law that we have a VA-tag on at all times and the only times we're allowed to have a "show" tag is if its an antique or if we're travelling to and from a specific event/show.

Re: Christmas came (very) early! Updates!

    UPDATE!!!!

The lights are on the car. But I have a few problems.

    1. The LED's dont work, I'm positive its because of the blue, brown, and black wiring (see pic). I have no idea where to plug it in, or where/what I could possibly hook it up to.
    2. I can't install my 55 watt HIDs because the new headlights are H1 bulbs (I ordered the HID kit before I thought about buying the headlights).
    3. The turning signal wiring is totally different for the new headlights. See pic.

    Solutions:
    1. NO CLUE!!!!!
    2. Get new bulbs
    3. Retro fit stock turning signals in. (shouldn't be hard)

ok, retro fit your stock turn signal bulbs in, then solder the leds in to the turnsignal wires and put a 5w bigger fuse in to handle the extra load.

Which wires go to which? And do you think that would actually work?

Here the other thing, I want to be able to run the LEDs only if I want to.

Thats where the LED thing would plug into then, right?

Anyone local want to help me out? LOL. If not I'm taking it to Performance Outfitters and having it custom wired.

I'm pretty sure if you set it up right (aka a needed knowledge of electronics/electrical workings) you could definately have it work separately.

Thanks! I can't wait to get it working 100%!!

Hopefully the headlights perform as well as they look, let us know!

and since when have fuses been available in watts? unless you blow a fuse (which i doubt) i would leave the fuses alone, LED's use a very small amount of power, i couldn't see them using more than half an amp.

Those headlights are sharp man. Where did you buy them? Germany? I have a brother in law that lives there (Airforce pilot trainer), that could pick them up for me and bring them home with him next month.

Your car is hot! Looks very clean and aggressive. The wheels are the ones I was 98% set on getting, same size and color. The head lights are amazing. I don't think anyone will say anything negative about them. Silver is usually boring to me, but your car makes it look unique enough for me to even notice.

    Congrats.

he's at school all week so this weekend we're going to tackle it and make it happen. It can't be hard. Im thinking to get the LEDs running you need to take power off the parking lights, no other way that makes sense to me. He wants to be able to run them in standalone but that may be tough unless wired up custom. I'd say most people would end up having them go on with the parking lights.

you can get DRL relay and wire it up as a DRL. Or I'm thinking if you want them on all the time you can just find a key-on line and run it off that. Current draw on LED's is very small so I'm thinking it won't trip fuses.

I'd try this, but I can't for a few reasons.
    1. I'm at school and not near my car
    2. I have ZERO electrical know how. (other than this plug goes in there)

Where could I find said "key" online? And how would you suggest wiring it?

what i would suggest is to see which is the power wire for the LEDs. Brown has to be ground, im guessing either blue or black is the lead for power. Maybe the other one wire for connecting both head light units together? the best bet would be you have a multi meter where you give 12v to see which wire is the lead.

as for a wiring option, that you want to run the LEDs independently from any of the other lights, i would say your going to need a switch on the dash, wired to a relay so that you can have control of them as you wish.

sides notes - i hope the LEDs are 12v, with some type of very low amperage.
I doubt it came with paperwork, or a wiring diagram. Your best bet is to try and find a service manual for a a5/s5 that you can look at the wiring diagram for it. Maybe an audi dealer could print it out for you. ill look at my source and see what i can find.
