    Guys,

I have Just Fitted A full Miltek System as follows to my 2007 Avant:

    100 Cell Sports Cats
    Resonated Centre Section
    Valved Cat Back

The Great Points - Sound on Revving & Acceleration.

Bad Points - Cabin Noise Drone around 1500 - 2100 RPM & The Sports Button does not make much Difference.

I need some Advice please as is this Normal ie the Bad points.

I do not have an Engine Check light as some people expected !

Any thoughts or experience most Appreciated.

    Cheers.

I have the Milltek valved/resonated cat-back only (no downpipes) While the sound is a little boomy from 1500-2100 rpm, it doesn't really drone. My guess is that your downpipes threw it over the edge. The sound will mellow slightly over time as carbon deposits line the internals of the exhaust, but you will basically have to live with it.

I'm curious as to your reason for replacing the downpipes on this car. They produce no horsepower whatsoever, and cost a bundle of money. And for you, They have actually made the sound slightly unpleasant to your ears.

The check engine light may develop as the 100 cell cats wear down. When it does, you will not be making optimal power. Again, another reason not to get downpipes. All hassle, no power gain.

First of all i hate you. You have an Avant.
Second, you'll get used to the drone. Give it a few weeks.
CEL, will come when you least expect it.
You will notice a change with the S button after some more familiarity.
    Enjoy the avant you bastard.

    Cheers Guys.

I bought the 100 Cell Sports Cats as several Uk Tuners stated the Performance Benefits as gas flows better through 100 as opposed to the standard 400 cell cats !

I am unsure as as to whether the Sports Cats are causing the Drone or the Cat Back !

    Cheers.

I have fought the drone exhaust problem with several cars I have owned in the past. I could never get use to it. I use my ears for a living and tolorating a drone was torture. Call the company and ask for advise.

Toss on some resonators and call it a day or remove the DP's and sell them and call it a day. I think VVg summed it up perfectly. I have the valved non resonated on my RS4 and I love it. It's a little boomy at 2k but I never drive in that range so it's all good. The "S" button really makes a difference on cabin sound. When my wife says can you quiet it down a little, I just hit the button and she's happy.

being an avant, you'll have more cabin drone, as someone stated above. Also, the more unrestrictive you go, the louder it will get and a drone is to be expected. With my B6 S4, I had the non-resonated Milltek catback, ONLY, and it had a small amount of droning around the RPMs you mentioned. It's normal and after the break in period you will get used to it and love it.

In theory yes, in reality there is no power gain whatsoever. The exhaust gas pulses are so well managed by the well designed exhaust manifold, that the stock downpipe/cat design is adequately engineered to handle what comes into them. The cat-back, exhaust is a little deficient, and that is why you will get some improvement here.

I am unsure as as to whether the Sports Cats are causing the Drone or the Cat Back !

It is the combination of the two. Remove your downpipes and it will be a little better. And yes, it will be worse in the Avant.

In the end, however, this car is so well put together from the factory that your overall gains are still going to be minimal.

Thanks Again for all the Feedback !

I will see how I feel after a Week of Driving it.

I let my wife use the car as a Daily Driver and she is not impressed in either sound modes.

    Cheers.

    Mike
