gear shifting (regarding to that 3rd gear grindin' thread)

(I've mastered steep uphills : ) no stupid high rev sprint, burning clutch whatsoever~engage around 1.2-1.5k always~smoothly)

When I have the car for the 1st week, I didn't feel any grinding at any gears.
However, that grinding appears when I'm going from 2nd to 3rd lately. Later I tried to shift gear with the clutch completely pressed, the grinding's not significant.

Every car has its own characteristics, and I have a question for yall manual b7 experts out there! "Is it the best and the most fuel efficient to engage gears upwardly around 1,500rpm? " For easy driving, I always rev up to only 3-3.5k(sometimes even only 2.5k), then shift up(engage) with low rpm's. Is it a good thing to do? And I always feel that the place where i rest my right foot(knee) on, the transmission box? always has this tiny bit of warmth coming outta it~ is it normal?

Again, a novice owner, seeking wise knowlege from kind experts like you.
    Many thanks!

Re: gear shifting (regarding to that 3rd gear grindin' thread)

It's next to impossible to upshift at 1500rpms with the 2.0t. The power doesn't kick in until 2000, so even just cruising at 1500rpms you will most likely be lugging the engine, unless you're going downhill . The way way the car is geared, i'd say its pretty normal to shift at around 3500. In my VR6 i would usually shift at 2500, but that had alot more torque down low and was geared accordingly, so that doesn't really work out so well with the 4 banger

    U can't drive the car under 2k RPM. Regular city driving I keep b/t 2-3K .

i dont understand why you would shift with the clutch not completely depressed. If your too lazy to put the clutch to the ground you should have bought an Automatic.

by not completely depressed, I meant there's still 5mm apart or something. Damn the automatic man(I don't hate them, but I'd take a manual if I'm gonna own one myself). OH, and it's you'RE.

to A-List: Yes, you can drive the car under 2k rpm. 50-60km/h in the city, usually 4th gear brings the rev to around 2k-3.5k. But I put it in 5th, driving it somewhere above 1.5k, but below 2k.

And that's why I'm wondering if it's a good way for fuel economy or not, and whether it's good for the engine or not. I know this 2.0T TSFI likes to be driven in higher rpm's as opposed to low rpm's.

    yettavr6:
starting from a dead stop in 1st, i can engage the clutch around 1.5k rpm, smoothly without any tiny bit of burning/grinding. And of course, that speed usually happens when there's a traffic jam, or in a parkade, so I can do so. If there's no traffic jam, I usually rev up to 3.5k-4k in 1st, then engage with the 2nd around 1.5k-2.5k.
Mind you, I put "easy driving" on my very first post.

If just for the sheer driving pleasure, I revved up to 4.5k-5k, then engage around 3k-3.5k. But apparently, if I am not in a rush, I can afford to drive slower and save a bit of gas.
