    Re: Shocks & Springs

I read a couple weeks ago (I think on shox.com) that Bilstein replaced their "Sport" line with the "HD"

    Re: Shocks & Springs

I use Bilstein sports with Eibach pro-kit, for what it's worth. H&R sports thought to be too low, more harsh. Eibachs seem just right (Gigi and Frank concluded similarly). HD is different than sport and sport not discontinued. It's Bilstein's "yellow" with great history.

I'm running H&R Sport springs with Bilsteins Sport shocks...they are noticably stiffer than stock but I don't think they're all that low.

    Re: Shocks & Springs

Didn't say that right. Poor choice of words by me with "too low". I went with Eibach b/c they were a tad less drop. I think H&R claims about 1/2" or so more drop, a bit less clearance than Eibach -- comparing our pix I'd say that's about right:

Anyway, springs, shocks, sways -- they drive pretty well, eh?

    Re: Shocks & Springs

I would avod the H&R springs with the koni sports unless you don't mind a rough ride. It 's low and looks good but man it is a bad ride on everyting but super smooth roads. EIback are more forgiving, less aggressive spring rate and also a bit higher so mroe travel. but the koni sport in general are just tough shocks!
Just keep that in mind. It is all a matter of taste

    Re: Shocks & Springs

Go with Gigi on this - sports stiffer than FSDs. My understanding is Koni sports also stiffer than Bilstein sports (and Bilsteins sports are definitely harder than stock). I don't know the FSDs but there are guys here that like 'em a lot as you've heard. They're fairly new. I went with B's at my mechanic's suggestion. Can't be terribly different, I'd guess. And my mechanic agreed with Gigi completely on ride with Eibach vs H&R springs. Good luck! And get sways.

    hey
There is indeed a big difference between the Koni Sport and FSD. I speak from my own experience having had H&R springs on stock shocks (not good :-) ), then H&R springs with Koni sport shocks and finally Koni FSD with Eibachs. The HR/Sport combo was very low on my car. I couldn't even slide a finger horinzontally b/a top of tire and fender in the front. It looked hot that low and handled well on smooth roads. However it rode horribly, my wife and kids complained often and you felt everything even driving over a rubber band :-) plus it was too stiff too handle well on non even pavement or rough roads. Lots of vibrations. Just rough and it isn't whY I need for my lifestyle. I do not track the car.
The FSD with Eibach (only approved spring for FSD) offers 80-90% of stock ride comfort while lowering the car quite a bit so it looks real good but not slammed and they still significantly improve handling though the car will obviously roll more than with the sport shocks.
Anyway just my opinion based on the experience with my A6. I hear the Bilstein is somehwere between the koni sports and FSDs.
    Hope this helps. Good luck!
