ok well i have made the decision that i am getting exhaust. I want to only spend around $200 and am thinking im just gunna go with a muffler, maybe a resonator if needed.

Magnaflow or flowmaster.

Who has the best sounding setup??? Prove it with a video..

SO far this is one of the cleanest sounds im going for. I cant get over how clean it sounds from the 1st to 2nd gear shift.

ok so i went around to a few shops today and I got the vibe that im gunna have to make the final decision on what muffler i get becuase they have no fucking clue what muffler will sound like what.

also one guy was telling me im gunna get drone no matter what with a aftermarket muffler on our cars becuase of the way there designed... Anyone disagree?

I read it has more to do with the downpipe and thickness of the pipes. Quality downpipe and thicker piping means little to no drone.

I got that muffler and I love the way it sounds too. I'd say get a small straight through res though.

not trying to thread jack but, has anyone gone from non-resonated to resonated with the magnaflow muffler. i'm trying to get rid of my highway drone an quiet it down a little.

Yes, the resonator makes a huge difference. It will be quieter with it. Buy one.

so how much more loud would it be to take off the stock audi resonator and put strait pipes before the muffler? And how much quieter would it be to put in a aftermarket resonator in such as magnaflow? Which would be more of a drastic change?

ok i have a 96 V6. I wanna run a magnaflow but im not sure what else to run. when you say straight thru res do u mean taking it off and just running mendrel the whole way to the cat? or further then the cat?

the exhaust shop that i was just talking to yesterday recommended this muffler called a "bullet" ( http://www.bulletperformance.com/411_perf.htm )

they claim that it is just like a magnaflow and they also showed me a comparison to a universal magnaflow and the internals are the exact same "strait through design". I heard it on a guys 2.0 4 cyl jetta that worked there, wasnt sure if it was a turbo or not. Doubt it though. It isnt a loud muffler at all, very subtle tone but does sound nice. He said there is no drone and isnt anoying at all, so that definitely made me think better of it. Since his is just a 2 liter 4 banger I was almost sure mine would be significantly louder but he was saying that after looking at my exhaust, that the stock resonator (suitcase sized muffler ) was a lot bigger then the stock resonator that he has on his car, thus making mine maybe being the same loudness, possibly quiter or louder. The shop also said that if anything the exhaust will be to quite and not loud enough, if thats the case they would take out the resonator and put strait pipes.. ( more power and deepness? but will that cause it to drone?)

for the muffler installed with tips and everything wont be more then $185 so I think its a pretty good price.

BTW this muffler is an oval shaped muffler that is single 2.25 in/out. And is a couple inches longer then the normal muffler making it muffle up to 15% more then normal. I think its 4x8 inches rather then the regular 5x8 to be able to fit more cars claimed by the company. But bullet mufflers? Seems like they are not to popular since i couldnt find one person with one.

What do you guys think about this muffler? should i go for it?

As long as the steel they use is as thick as the magnaflows. Thats what allows magnaflow to keep it a low rumble and get rid of the tinny crispness.

How much cheaper is it than a magnaflow? If not much just go with magnaflows.

Replace your resonator with a magnaflow resonator. That would give you the sound your looking for without the drone...

yea im probably going to go with the bullet but im just curious to what the aftermarket resonator will do in replacement of the stock audi resonator? Im thinking it would just cut back on drone but maybe make it louder?? What would happen if i decided to just replace it with strait pipes instead of a new resonator? Because from what the shop told me it would be pointless to put in another resonator because there is so little room to work with...

The magnaflow set up is nice, but I strongly suggest using a resonator as well, drone can be pretty bad. Theres a clip in my sig of my old set up before I put in my resonator, everytime I listen to it I miss my 2.8, but the sound of a turbo is oh so sweet.

Do our cars have clamps on the exhaust? I'm assuming you have to cut them off to put a new one on but hoping I'm wrong.. also does anybody have the Magnaflow muffler, with the resonator and Magnaflow cats? I'm wondering what the difference would be between the OEM or Magnaflow cats.

This thread just convinced me to sell my PS3 for car money lol. I am getting the 14862 as well but keeping the stock resenator. At least until we get setup for custom exhaust at the shop. then its probly gonna be cat delete and replaced with a dual in out 1 out resenator if possible and 2.5" to the back.

ok good shit, so if i decide to go with the bigger muffler ill prob go with a aftermarket res (the bullet muffler i mentioned earlier) , if i go with a louder smaller muffler(regular magnaflow) ill most likely leave the stock resonator...

cool man id love to hear how it sounds, that is one of my choices for a magnaflow muffler, i love the tips that come on it. But damn there quite expensive, its making me think if i should just go with the same size universal one and have the shop weld on the same kind of tips... save myself some money.

does anyone know if an aftermarket cat will set off a CEL in the 2.8?
