    Rear deck Bose

So my speakers are rattling like crazy and i pulled the rear deck off to examine them and the dust caps are glued on still. there are little spots here and there where it looks like there loose but when i touch them there is no play to the dust caps. If there is the littlest opening would that cause them to rattle... or they could just be blown??

    Re: Rear deck Bose

It is VERY common for them to blow....

Probably have to disconnect them and get new ones or disconnect them and get a line output converter and get an aftermarket sub in the trunk!

    Re: Rear deck Bose

Mine were he same way. I peeled the dust caps off and epoxied them back on which seemed to do the trick.

    Re: Rear deck Bose

yeah i tested the speakers with out the dust caps on and they sound amazing. So i am contacting cemeting them back on instead of epoxieing.

I got a rattle in my right rear speaker. Going to try and do what you guys suggested about the dust cap, see if that helps.

    Re: Rear deck Bose

also when you do it make sure you take the dust cap completely off and clean the glue off then reapply the contact cement and push it on. then once its on and set i went and just glopped glue around the edge of the dust cap and speaker to make sure there was no air passing through and also to make sure it was adhesived properly.

    Re: Rear deck Bose

lol sorry for the incorrect usage of the word lol. anyways yeah i didnt take pics... sorry i just followed the other write up and just assumed to use a lot of glue to make sure that there is no air passing through the dust cap. if i get around to it i will take pics of how much glue i used.

    Re: Rear deck Bose

i meant i used a lot of contact cement not glue. DO NOT USE GLUE IT WILL NOT HOLD!!!! I applied a good amount of contact cement to the dust cap and the speaker. Then once i set it in its spot i then reapplied a lot of contact cement around the edges to ensure supreme adhesion!!!

im gonna have to do this also with my rear right speaker. I did this a couple months ago with super glue, but it didnt hold. I'll have to try contact cement.

    Re: Rear deck Bose

yes there is a diy, i think i searched rear deck and it came up, but anyways its very easy.

    step 1: Fold seats down.

Step 2: pop those 3 black caps off on the rear deck and remove the bolts.

Step 3: pop up the front of the rear deck.

Step 4: slide rear deck towards you and be careful not to scratch the speakers with the 3 black clips.

to reinstall do it in the reverse order. I will try to look for the diy and post.

    here is the diy.

    http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1760180.phtml

it took a total of about 45 mins to take the rear deck off, contact cement the dust caps back on to the speakers, and then reinstall the rear deck.

yeah it is pretty easy but just take your time so you dont break anything. Also for the contact cement go to home depot in the painting section and the company is called Dap welwood who makes the contact cement that i used. WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!!

    Re: Rear deck Bose

I just did this last night. It was so freaking easy.

I've taken some pics to show the process and what you should do. I know, I'm no artist, and my glue applying skills are teh suck.

Close up of the old glue around the dust cover.

Picture of the first speaker with the glue removed.

    Dust cover removed.

    Both dust covers removed.

    My awesome glue applying skills.

    Both applied with glue.

    Finished product.

It ain't pretty, but these mofos will hold out forever!
