Unhappy '00 2.8 won't shift out of first gear occasionally.

I have a 2000 2.8 w/ about 85,000 miles. Recently i've been having an issue where after a cold start, my computer won't allow the transmission to shift out of first. I tried switching over to tiptronic but that wouldn't work either. If i put it in park, turn off the ignition, and start it back up again, it will work fine. I went to the stealership and they reset the basic default which seemed to fix the problem temporarily. Now its happening again and the check engine light is on. i'm gonna run a scan on monday.

Has anyone heard of this before? The service tech at my shop said it might be the module in the transmission?

any help identifying the problem and giving me an estimate or solution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

curious as to why you think this, my 99 a4 2.8 tip does this too, however tip mode shifts it out of first, if I let it warm up it works fine but if I start and go right away it won't shift from 1st until 3000 rpm then its fine. Recently replaced fluid and filter and no change and no codes in the tcm other then intermittant brake light fault. I just figured it was normal until the fluid warmed up a bit.

I solved my problem. it was the f125 transmission range switch. Replaced the switch and it's been good since then.
