    Boring engine - DMV reqs?

I read a lot about boring out the engine from 1.8 to 1.9/2.0, but I was just wondering, since you have changed a major component of the car, do you have to contact and tell the DMV this so they can input it into their database? Cause I would imagine that if you needed to get the car smogged, their database would expect either a 1.8T or 2.8, not a 1.9/2.0 in a b5 a4?

Sweet. I have so many freaking ideas running through my head it hurts. The only thing is smog, since increasing bore size I'll probably be increasing my fuel usage which in turn makes my car emit more and so on and so forth, will it become more difficult to pass smog? Obviously make some tweeks to the exhaust to get the flow better, but will I have to tweek it more than if I left it 1.8 with a hf cat?

if you are going to be spending that much money to bore your engine out, why even care about the DMV? I run full test pipe setup on my car (no cat) with a fully built engine and have no problems at all. now if i was to get smog tested I wouldn't make it in the testing building before failing :)

Re: Boring engine - DMV reqs?

haha, normally I wouldn't care, but what's the point of doing it if I need to use it as a DD, but can't because it won't pass smog? Which is why I brought up the question. Now, if I was to make it a track car, then I wouldn't care, and the only way that would happen is if I buy the 1986 Porsche 944 I'm gonna be checking out withing a day or 2 since my audi is currently inoperable.

Yes you will use more fuel but your AFR will not change and that is all that matters. People have been doing bore/stroke on the 1.8t for over 6 years.

You might be thinking way to much which is why your head hurts.

Cool, so as long as the AFR is right, I'm gonna be good. Now that my head hurts slightly less, I can find another thought to replace it with.
