Saw some crazy ish tonight!

Ok - I saw some craziness tonight. Two black B8 Avants here in Southern California on the 105 East headed away from LAX. No big deal, right? WRONG. Both of them were completely taped up - all the emblems were gone off the back. No plates, no nothing. One was raised up pretty high - um, like Allroad hight!

The other looked like a "normal" B8 Avant - but definitely didn't sound like one...sounded like...diesel.

No pictures, unfortunately. The Wife and I got in a fight because I tried to get her off my cell phone so I could take pics...she didn't like me going crazy!

I'm thinking - there's more Avants coming boys. I'm pretty excited, so I'll post more details later.

I'll keep a look out for you since I live right down the street from AoA. I always see test mules like the Q5 and such. Maybe I'll go there tomorrow and do some spying!

Yeah, ask them WTF. I know they're bringing more now. What I really wanted to see was a third Avant - say - an S4.

There is talk of there being an A4 Allroad coming to america. It should be coming here to Colorado next for altitude tests. I will let some people know that seems always be in the right spot.

The diesel is the one I'd most love to own. 3.0 turbo-diesel. Amazing engine. On the A5 that diesel propels the car to 60mph in 5.5 seconds. Should be about 6.0 seconds on an Avant, slightly detuned and accounting for the weight.
Add this to 37mpg highway and you have a revolutionary powerplant (over here anyway...old hat in Europe). Need a new car in May, but not holding my breath for an A4 Avant 3.0 TDI by then...

This is Audi's big vision...diesel powered sports/luxury sedans that are accepted in the gigantic US market

Phase one - TDI domination at Le Mans series to break the stereotypes about diesel being slow and awful. Check.

Phase Two - halo car to make the Audi brand cool (R8). Check.

Phase Three - Diesel lux cars in North American driveways....we shall see!

I think they will bring the 2.0 TDI instead of 3.0 TDI to the states.

^ i really hope its the 3.0 tdi. It just makes more sense to bring the more power diesel over in the minds of the european car makers. Just look at BMW they are bringing over the 335d and nothing else. The reasoning behind this i would guess is to show americans that diesels can be fast fun and more efficient than their gasoline counterparts.

With the 335d coming - this could be Audi's answer. I'm keeping the fingers crossed (even more so for S4, but I'd be ok with 3.0tdi for now!).
