Saw some interesting ish tonight...

Ok - I saw some craziness tonight. Two black B8 Avants here in Southern California on the 105 East headed away from LAX. No big deal, right? WRONG. Both of them were completely taped up - all the emblems were gone off the back. No plates, no nothing. One was raised up pretty high - um, like Allroad hight!

The other looked like a "normal" B8 Avant - but definitely didn't sound like one...sounded like...diesel.

No pictures, unfortunately. The Wife and I got in a fight because I tried to get her off my cell phone so I could take pics...she didn't like me going crazy!

I'm thinking - there's more Avants coming boys. I'm pretty excited, so I'll post more details later.

Are you close to any of the test tracks where they take unfinished future cars?

If it was allroad style then they were most likely being transported to a dealer. I didn't think they were suppose to drive with the shims in place.

They test a ton of cars in LA and the region. We see covered up vehicles down here all the time...so it's not new. It's exciting to see these Avants though.

Yeah, I don't think they'd be driving with those in place...in addition, why would all the badges be removed, and the front rings taped over?

i only live less than 5 miles from LAX, i wish i would have seen them.. i'll keep an eye out..

VW & Audi have a testing and engineering center directly off of the 101 freeway in Westlake Village, at Lindero Canyon. They test blacked out, covered up and freaky looking vehicles all the time and frequently do LA area testing for data collection. It's very likely you saw a proto diesel something.

I kid you not, they had a black RS6 Avant driving around here for a few months no more than 6 months ago. My wife actually saw it, photo'ed it horribly from her phone on PCH in Malibu, and told me all about it. When a lady sees something odd you know it's odd.

I don't have time to camp out there but that facility spits out some really trick stuff on a daily basis. We also have the BMW Receiving Center nearby in Oxnard. You would laugh at some of the BMW "mules" cruising around here the way they tack on stuff, black out with vinyl, and basically drive rigs that look like Mad Max vehicles.
