That right there is on my 10 year plan... It'll take that long to convince the lady to let me drive a race car as a hobby.

You can tell her it's got a full cage and you'll drop a TDI motor in it to keep the speed down. You could always go endurance racing with it.

Would it be a sin to drop my 300hp 1.8T engin in there and drive it daily? :)

That would make one fun autox car with the right tires... Muhaha..

Re: STaSIS / Audisport B5RS4 Chassis #005 for sale!

I truly believe this car is only worth about 5 grand at best...it has absolutely nothing...I can buy a cheap b5 or shell and put a chromoly cage in it for 5-6 grand total without all the headache of re-wiring and locating a drivetrain. I don't understand 30k? Anyone care to elaborate that price for an obviously used, abused and punished road race car? Maybe I'm missing something here?

If you think that all that car has is a simple chromoly cage then you are indeed missing something... in fact you're missing everything. Racecars are incredibly tedious and expensive to build. EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. That cage alone would cost at least $3k from a good builder. Then add the brakes, wheels, interior, fuel cell, fire system, electrical cutoff, suspension... not to mention a factory metal widebody!

$30k is a lot, but not that far out of line. Certainly more in line than $5k!

EDIT: I just looked at the ebay pics of the cage... Im going to revise my estimate to $5k for that work. Notice how its integrated into the A pillars, suspension towers, etc. The car was probably seam welded as well... not cheap and hard to do! The pedal set alone is probably $1,000 new.

Agreed---especially for a true Audi Sport UK chassis.
Ohlins and Alcon's are worth a few K.
Agreed on value of Tilton pedal set--we have a new Wilwood (less $ than Tilton) triple master set w/ AP Racing reservoirs and it was $600 new about 6yrs ago.

    Good luck with the sale!

Re: STaSIS / Audisport B5RS4 Chassis #005 for sale!

Just look at the cost associated with stripped down a street car to the point that you can seam weld it. Just getting it naked is expensive.

If this thing has relocated suspension pickup points or otherwise altered geometry, relocated the driver seat back, and has a logbook and everything needed for compliance then it is a pricey piece of work. Done isn't as expensive as done right. At least for a little while.

The Ohlins are worth some big coin. So is that fuel system installed and working. So are most of the other bits and pieces here and there. The Tilton pedal assembly and master cylinders are another example of this.

Re: STaSIS / Audisport B5RS4 Chassis #005 for sale!

what I'm saying is there are race cars on ebay for far less than 30K turn key. This car would take a huge chunk of money to actually get it to start and drive.

You guys make it seem that it's expensive to throw in a cage. You can have the BEST ROLL CAGE EVER BUILT by the BEST fabricators here in my area of Detroit and it'll cost you $2500. You say it takes alot of $ to get the car to a bare shell. Does a sunday and a case of beer with a friend or two cost BIG dollars? Shocks have to be rebuilt and I assure you this car is not being sold with brand new out of the box suspension and brakes. I don't want it to seem like this car is only good for scrap metal now...I just want to make the point that this car can be duplicated as a turn key for far less than 30K, and I'm sure 99% of us would agree on that. If you see a stasis decal on the hood and think it adds $20,000 in value than more power to ya because your wallet is faaar bigger than mine. I just find it a bit insulting to post an asking price like that.

Re: STaSIS / Audisport B5RS4 Chassis #005 for sale!

That car cannot possibly be duplicated for under $30,000. If you can have a cage like the one in that car built for $2,500, then you have either found the deal of a lifetime or are about to have a total n00b build something that must hold up to save your life.

I recently sold a 1967 Porsche racecar for significantly more than $30,000... a potential buyer that backed out of the deal two years ago (after leaving a deposit) opted to have a shop construct an identical one for him instead. The price tag for the car he built finished north of $200,000... and it was not very different from the car that I sold for $50k.

Yes, you can find racecars for under $30k for a turnkey package on ebay. The spec miatas can be had for a lot less. This Audi was build in the UK by a top race team and exported to the US (the other cars in that group were run by Champion with factory Audi support, Jason can you confirm this?). There were only a handful of these ever built... perhaps five or maybe ten. Will Stasis get $30k for it? No. Will they get $20k? Probably. I know plenty of guys who have paid over $100,000 for a Porsche cup car, it will simply take the right Audi enthusiast to pay $20k for a chassis and another $10k+ for the drivetrain and still pay a hell of a lot less than any Pcar for an extremely unique car that was contructed by experts, not just some random shop. Stasis isnt selling a car they built and the stasis name isnt adding much to the price, if you knew the history of the car then perhaps you would have a better perspective of what you are saying.

I find it funny that you think the asking price is insulting. Perhaps if you knew what goes into building a car of this caliber you would change your mind. It is NOT as easy as you make is sound.

What are the specs on the cage, just wondering if it would pass NHRA rules or not.

Re: STaSIS / Audisport B5RS4 Chassis #005 for sale!

From what I remember (maybe 2 years now) my friend had his 8 or 10 point chromoly cage constructed and installed into his Talon for $2500. her is a link to pics

    http://www.stenodperformance.com/gal...s.php?album=28

of course scca rules may require a different type of cage but it will be very similair to this.

Re: STaSIS / Audisport B5RS4 Chassis #005 for sale!

That talon cage is essentially a 6-point. The braces on the bottom of the hoop are not 7&8, and it is not tied to the front suspension towers.

That cage does look like it was well constructed, and I would expect a bill of around $2,500 for something similar. At the same time, it is not comparable to the cage in the Audi, which I would consider a 10-point, and is also integrated into the pillars for additional rigidity and crush resistance.

Sorry to get into a pissing contest here, the only point that I wanted to make is that this car cannot be duplicated for the price that they are asking. Racecars depreciate faster than a falling star... they really are the ultimate money pit. Just ask Jet Jockey
