    Hey,

Just wondering how much weight could be saved by replacing the hood and trunk lid with carbon fiber equivalent. Thanks.

Honestly, it's not a real big savings. If you want to save weight, you would be better off taking out the rear seat, taking out the door panels etc. Most people do the mod for looks and not for the weight savings.

on a 3600 pound car, saving and or transfering 60-70 pounds wont be noticeable

CF hood should be for looks only, it'll save you about 20lbs or so which equates to nothing haha. I've had one before as well, no real savings. Pretty much anything CF besides chassis or a larger component, will get you more fashion over function. I fabbed a CF NACA duct into mine right over the filter though, opened up right into it. How's that for swallowing fresh air? Kinda scary cutting into an expensive hood though

On a side note, I would definitely recommend hood pins. CF hoods are almost too easy to lift by hand, imagine if the wind gets under it at 90mph+. Not trying to scare you, it should be fine, but pins give you a little extra peace of mind and add a more aggressive look to the front.

A CF hood will give you a 20 lb savings in the front end, and maybe 10-15 lbs in the rear, without losing ride quality... If you started taking of door panels, seats, etc, your car will be pretty darn loud and unstreetable...

However, if it were for track purposes, CF hood, trunk, remove door panels, rear seats, passenger seat, relocate battery to rear, lighter wheels, spare tire, brakes, etc, you're probably in the 200 lb range and the car will become a pretty mean weekend track car :)

it would add up if you do alot of weight reduction at once.. for example, get the cf hood, boot lid, cf mirror covers, take out spare tires, door panels, rear seats, and gym membership all at the same time.

    that would definitely help alot.

but i personally wouldnt want to take out the rear seats because it would upset the weight balance of the car.. not good.

cf hood sounds like a good idea to me..knowing how our weight distribution is at front will help a lil

Losing weight on the front of the car is one of the hardest areas to do so. If you get a vented hood, the additional cooling will help out a lot, if you track your car.

Just think of guys who drill holes in their car to get those last couple of pounds out of the car. Everything eventually just adds up.

I think taking a whiz before you set out would be more efficient than cf mirror covers.
