Going to see a lot of me around...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This week I'm picking up a 2000 A6, bone stock with 140k on it. The car itself is in really good shape, and not destined to stay stock for long.

A little about me. I can't leave cars alone. I currently have a 2003 Dodge SRT-4 I bought new 5-1/2 years ago. There's almost nothing left stock on it, and it's a blast to drive. However, 450 whp is fairly useless on the street in a fwd, it's a little loud for longer trips with my family, and I need something new to play with.

That brings me here. I'm picking up a 2.7 bi-turbo 6-speed to start working on. I do all my own work on my other car, but have no experience with Audi's, although working on my wife's tdi Beetle has caused me to curse German engineers more than once.

A few things I need to do right off the bat: Suspension, brakes, headlight.

The car is still somehow on the stock struts, so after researching a little, I'm planning on going with the Koni/Eibach combo. I've run that setup on other cars before with few issues. After reading some threads, I'm also going to look at Febi control arms.

Brakes: I'm dropping a lot in this car right away, so will probably stay away from a full brake kit for now. Any good recommendations for pads/rotors? I've used Hawk pads successfully, but on lighter cars. Also, it looks like Vivid Motorsports sells kits, and they're local to me.

Headlight: The passenger side headlight is badly fogged. Are there any options other than a new factory one?

Thanks for any input, I'm an incessant collector of information, and will likely be asking a lot of questions.

Re: Going to see a lot of me around...

welcome aboard. lets see some pics so we can see this before you start your transformation!

for brakes, i couldnt give u too much advise, i have seen people use slotted rotors running ceramic pads, SS brakelines, and racing brake fluid (motul i think?) and say it works real well since our stock brakes are more then enough for street use.

are your head lights stock with HID's? if they are, there isnt many options and almost everyone just clears out the amber piece and call it a day. some paint the housing black aswell. you could look into Allroad headlights aswell, they are nice and bolt right in. think they require HID's though. you could also be our test pilot and try these out if you dont have HIDs clicky. im curious how they will look, i think they would look sweet to be honest (theres a b5 with similar lights in that post)

    good luck

I do believe it has the HID's, but I'll have to check. I looked the car over yesterday, and will hopefully pick it up early next week.

FWIW, this is my current car:

Re: Going to see a lot of me around...

I use my back seat (2 little boys), so I passed on the side-exit. Plus it's a bit loud for me.
I have a 3" turbo-back, single tip exhaust with a muffler. And thanks for the compliment on my car. :)
Hopefully I can end up with as fun, fast, and clean an A6.

Re: Going to see a lot of me around...

im sure you will. if you do suspension, you may want to look at swaybars too. best bang for your buck handling mod you could possibly do. night and day difference how the car responds. h-sports are the best way to go. they are one of the cheapest and you get front and rear

    H&R: front - 275.00 rear 225.00

Hotchkis, front and rear - 392.00

edit: for the srts exhaust, didnt mean side exit, meant just 1 muffler in the back, since i think stock they came dual. but i think you did convert to the single exhaust judging from your post

Re: Going to see a lot of me around...

first thing I'm going to be doing to the A6, other than brakes & suspension, it pulling the engine to do the turbos, timing belt, water pump, and clutch.
I'd like a good 400 whp, so I'm researching the RS4K04's, RS6's, and hybrids right now.

    Welcome to AZ..

Check out classifieds for suspension. I saw some Koni/Eibach for sale.

I agree with audirs said get sway bars makes a huge difference to the car. I got mine couple of days ago and its worth every penny.

Re: Going to see a lot of me around...

youll find alot of info on alot of different setups on teh b5 s4 forum for sure. you can do rs4 ko4s without a proper fueling kit if i remember correctly, and you can get a stage 3- tune which is meant for no fueling. i think giac is the only company that does that if im not mistaken

Re: Going to see a lot of me around...

I'll definately be doing a fueling setup as well. I'm waiting until I decide on a turbo before figuring out exactly what I'll need.
It's interesting coming into a platform where all the turbo upgrades seem to be sold as complete "kits", with a canned tune.

Re: Going to see a lot of me around...

sway bars for sure -- combo with Eibachs will surprise you, the Quattro handling is so good, and no roll makes it incredible for larger car; lots of Koni fans here, but I chose Bilstein sports.

I have headlight issue also -- what do you have in mind?

Not sure yet what to do about that headlight. I was looking around to see if there were any decent aftermarket lights. Barring that, looks like I'll be wet-sanding and polishing it to remove the haze.

Re: Going to see a lot of me around...

No aftermarket alternatives to speak of. Can't buy lens without buying housing (Please, somebody prove me wrong!) and OEM prices are ludicrous. Endee666 has blacked out housings available (not lens) that might work with silver (he upgraded to Allroad bi-xenons).

Stampy - been watching like a hawk -- none available on ebay except halogens, cheap imitations, upgrade kits, or one side but not other type offers for used.

I'm having sanding/cleaning experiment done on mine in a few days.

well, the LED part is interesting, I'll grant that. I'm looking for xenon. Actually, if somebody (Hella) would sell replacement lenses only they could make a killing! People would pay couple hundred for new pair that costs $20 to produce!

Well, the deal has been agreed upon, and I'll be picking up my A6 on Thursday!

Taking advantage of the last day of Purems.com's summer savings, I ordered a full set of front control arms, a set of Koni FSB struts, H&R springs, and H-sport sways. Can't wait!
