2 quick questions...

Yes I searched but didn't find anything. I'm sure the answers are out there some where but I didn't want to invest my whole afternoon in getting these questions answered.

First, what is the dry weight of a 98.5 b5 a4 1.8TQM?? I'll add fuel and other stuff in later, I just want to know how much the car weighs completly empty.

Second, what is the power loss over the drive train? I think I remember reading something like 22% but I couldn't find proof of it.

22% is what we all tend to use.

Dry weight? I dont know anyone that puts their car on a scale without coolant or oil.

Curb weight of a 98 A4 1.8tqm is 3240

That's a pretty close # to what mine is w/o driver. It was 3383lbs w/ driver and 3/4 tank of fuel, and a couple things removed(trunk stuff). 190lb driver(me) removed it's ~3200lbs, minus the 3/4 tank of fuel 85lbs (7.3lbs/gal), and I'd be down to 3120lbs or so, maybe a bit less.

If I had to guess I'd say without coolant and oil you MIGHT squeak under 3100lbs if your car is identical to my 98.5 1.8TQM

i am not 100% on this but i'm almost sure that the drivetrain loss on our cars due to the quattro system is near 30% loss

You might be just thinking of the % a few of the dyno's out there will show.

No, mine is a 2000 without a sunroof. At this time mine is right around 2800 lbs, with 1/4 tank of fuel and without me in it.

I was referring to the OP's 98 1.8tqm, as mine is a 98.5 it should be pretty damn close. There are some discrepancies, like power seats, leather, etc.
My car has the sunroof. For now.

Avant is 110 lbs heavier then a sedan.

That's it? How much of a difference is there between the B5 6sp S4, b/c I saw one of those weigh in ~3800lbs.

Well if you think about it there isn't all that much different about the avant, it has hatch/glass in place of a trunk/rear glass and the 2 extra side windows.

B5 S4 2.7
sedan = 3593
Avant = 3705

Difference of 112 lbs
