Emailed Audi and was told no Avant...

So I know you all know this already but I thought I would post anyhow. I emailed Audi and a customer relations advocate called me this morning. He said "Audi is at this time only going to bring the sedan to the US." I told him my wife and I both have S4's and have been driving Audi S4's since November 2000 when we bought our first. I have a B7 Avant and would only consider replacing my car with another sport wagon not a Q5 (SUV)! I also pointed out that by not bringing the RS4 Avant and RS6 Avant Audi has lost incremental sales that would have helped them get to the 100,000 car goal for 2008 sales in the United States........I can only hope they'll bring it in 2010-2011.

I think we all hope they'll bring it at some point...they probably said one key thing - "at this time." Let's hope that's a sign that it will be coming eventually. Similar to the way the cabrio will be coming out at some point.

Since you've apparently started a campaign - maybe I'll join in. Let me know who you talked to. I'll call them/email them/send them a letter as well. We may be "enthusiasts" as others have said in other posts, but we can have a strong, unified voice.

I think they are probably going to only bring the sedan to the U.S. for the first year or so because the hype about the new car will bring sales up. Then when those sales start to plateau they will bring the Avant over. In turn starting the hype and higher sales all over.

That's what they did with the B5 S4. We didn't see the Avant in the States for awhile after the sedan hit our shores. I can't recall what Audi did with the B6 S4 release.

If it makes you feel any better, the Q5 is based on the same platform as the A4/S4

With the poor exchange rate, don't count on the Germans going crazy with the model lineup here in the States anytime soon.

According to official stats, Audi sold about 93,500 cars in 2007, so if 2008 is anywhere near that number, there's no freaking way that S4 or RS4 Avant would account for another 5000 units. From the financial/marketing standpoint, not bringing the Avant here was probably the right move. From an enthusiast standpoint, it sucks. I currently have a B7 Avant and to be honest, for some reason, the rear end of the B8 Avant just isn't as sexy as the previous generations. I doubt it'll grow on me.

Quit blaming everything on the exchange rate, wagon sales are simply poor in the US weak dollar or not. The Germans tried to make it popular and failed.

I know this, I'm not delusional. Hence the wink.

Anyway, even without the current importation and sale of the S4 Avant and allroad, I'm almost certain Audi sells more wagons in the US than any other German make. The only other manufacturer overall (German or not) that might sell more wagons here is Volvo. It would actually be interesting to get the exact numbers on that...

Maybe we should change the title of this thread. Again, the OP was referring to the B8 S4 and not the A4. Yes, the B8 A4s are hitting dealers now, and Audi has no current plans to sell the B8 S4 here in the States.

The only other manufacturer overall (German or not) that might sell more wagons here is Volvo. It would actually be interesting to get the exact numbers on that...

Volvo is Swedish/American (Ford), but I'm guessing you just meant any Euro mark, not only German.

I'd hazard a guess and say that VW sells the most Wagons of any Euro mark in NA. Especially considering the new Jetta Sportwagen TDi.

The Avant may be available in Canada before the US since less than 10% of American sales were Avant, but almost 25% of Canadian sales were Avants in 2006. /me goes to find the monthly sales links from audi.com and audi.ca...
