    Reverse without pushing down...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just purchased my car a few weeks ago and just realized something fairly shocking... to put the car in reverse I just shift into the reverse position. I was reading about some of our cars that have push down reverse...so the other day I pushed down on my shifter and low and behold, it went down. Shifts into reverse are much smoother now...

Question: Obviously whoever owned the car before me wore out something to allow the car to shift into reverse without pushing down on it. Is this something that I should be worried about?

Does it have a short shifter. My car was like that until i put in my short shifter. Now i dont have to push down. Basically theres a little T that you insert into the shifter if you want to have push down, or leave it out if you dont. you should be fine tho

I don't think it has a short shifter on it. Seems stock to me and lots of play as per the normal audi shifter. Dunno. I'm not going to worry about it and Christmas is coming in a few short months...perhaps I'll remedy the slop then.

JHM Solid linkage will help a lot with the slop.

The push down reverse isn't something that normally breaks, it's usually from a short shifter being installed. OR the previous owner didn't like it and removed/bypassed it. Some old people don't like pushing it down.
