Anyone have an idea on how much a custom tune costs??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey just wondering if anyone knows how much approx. a custom tune will cost? Im going to get rid of my APR Software, going to go with a GT2870R Turbo Kit or the Stasis K04. I want to do a custom tune made for my car looking for about 350AWHP which should be safe with the stock block.

~$1500 iirc (basing this off of some figure I saw a while ago). I'm not sure if you'll get 350whp out of the K04 kit though.

Go with the STaSIS kit. Can't go wrong.

Yeah, but first of all, do you really need 350? No. It's like an ego thing. Second of all, with STaSIS you get a 1 year/15000 mile warranty. Or, if you're still under warranty, you get till the end of it. It will be very smooth and wont tear up your engine. STaSIS is a great company. If I was going to go BT, it would be with them. Plus, you have the APR FP already, so they can make a more aggressive tune for you. They can also do a race tune, etc....

hahaha... i think everyone on this forum knows where you stand with STaSIS...
always lookin for that warranty to help you sleep better at night lol j/k

    gotta post it again:
Tommy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted, why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmmm, very interesting.
Ted Nelson, Customer: Go on, I'm listening.
Tommy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to fell all warm and toasty inside.
Ted Nelson, Customer: Yeah, makes a man feel good.
Tommy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?
[chuckles until he sees that Ted is not laughing too]
Ted Nelson, Customer: [impatiently] What's your point?
Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times.
Ted Nelson, Customer: But why do they put a guarantee on the box?
Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of shit. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

They make a good product and it wont blow your engine up. I like what they do. 350 hp is on the brink of what the stock internals can handle. It may hold up for a while, but eventually, when it goes...it will go big.

Why not go Revo where you can mod the settings with ease?

Re: Anyone have an idea on how much a custom tune costs??

you gotta figure about 22-25 % drivetrain loss for awd cars... if you want 350 down to all fours you will need to do at least rods... our cars can handle about 400 to the motor, anymore is not safe. 350 is a good amount of wheel power for the fwd, but for the awd you should look somewhere in the range of 300 awhp, that being 25% loss from the 400 crank horsepower..

i agree that they do... but we can't really know what our cars can handle... cuz frankly no one here has yet to do it with our engines. and if a TIP can handle it... i'm sure people will be more than happy with it on an MT. You might lose the daily driver abilities... though.. which is why you want to be sure you know what you are getting yourselves into. With a BT you will lose a lot of low end torque and gain a shit ton when that turbo spools like a mother.

Maybe call somebody like Avalon or Vast and see what they will charge you for a custom tune. I wouldnt think it would be more than $1500 or so, but there might be some different options depending on what you would like to achieve.

Pete, there is a guy on LI that does custom tunes. The guys at grandprix work with him, its sketchy because those guys suck however maybe you can get his info from them and contact him yourself. Also look up Veloce, they do chips and programming. My brother knows one of the owners and he is really good. They can probably do a custom tune. I will fill you in more monday but those are a few good leads.

ive heard good things about chris tapp custom tunes...i know my shop uses him a lot.

as for cost.. a custom tune can take multiple days of work ON the dyno.. therefore..your looking at probably a few thousand for the tune alone. not cheap.
