    Re: Timing Chain?

The 4.2 litre engine in the B6/B7 S4 cars utilizes a chain driven cam system. It is a lifetime setup and with proper oil maintenance should never need to be replaced within the mileage that most folks will drive their cars.

I thought it was still recommended that a replacement of the chain should occur between 60K and 80K to avoid any catastrophic future problems.

Unfortunately, the chain tensioners sometimes fail causing a catastrophic hit to your wallet when they have to pull the engine to fix it :)

Sometimes the whole car catches fire. Anything can fail and cause a lot of damage.

    Re: Timing Chain?

Guys, FYI I was speaking to VF about the SC and let them know about my mileage, I'm closing in on 60K. They recommended that I replace the chain at around 80K. I was pissed to hear that I may be looking at doing that regardless of how the SC would effect what life it has left. I have already had the tensioners done. Any comments?

When and why did you have the tensioners done? If you had them done why wouldnt you replace the chain with them?

About a year ago and I was told that's all I needed. I had them done because I heard them starting to go. BTW, according to you, the chain should never need to be replaced so I'm not sure why you would ask why I didn't have that done.
