My leather is starting to fade and peel. Can the RS4 and DTM edition knobs swap into my S-Line? Is it a DIY? and if so where might I find this so called DIY?

I'm sure that any OEM shift knob will fit. To remove the shift knob and boot, you pull up on the leather. Once that has popped out, pull the leather boot all the way up, until it can't go any farther. You will notice that the knob is held on by a little clamp. This clamp has to be broken. You can order another clamp from the dealer and use knippers or whatever they are called to tighten it. Or you can use one of those pipe tightening things from the hardware store (metal loop with bulky screw.. you turn the screw to tighten or loosen it.)

Then put the new knob on and make sure it's on there (zip ties won't do!) and push down the boot!

The knobs will fit. The toughest part of the install is removing the little clip thingy

Dremel, with a cutting wheel. Bout 5 seconds of sparks and you are through. I couldnt cut through it with hand tools.

I got rid of my non-sline shifter and got the s-line. I like it much better. The install is a breeze once you remove the clip and ashtray.

sorry to be off topic, but im looking at the picture and at the nav screen next to the time on the bottom, i see a signal strenght indicator and the blue tooth logo... were you able to connect to your phone thru the nav unit?!!??!

i have bluetooth and nav, but i can only access my phone book thru the color dis screen in the cluster. it would be hot if i can make calls thru the nav unit and transfer my phone book to there as well!

Re: Shift knobs, what are my options OEM only

I have a B7 S4 with the same setup (SatNav and Btooth) and from what I recall (as an avid manual reader) you have to transfer your phonebook onto the car's memory, kind of manually. It's not something I bothered to do...what's the point? I like having my blackberry contacts available in the cluster screen.

The bberry is synced to my work computer, so I'm not sure I'd want to constantly be manually changing the Audi contact book to reflect changes made at work to my mobile.

For me the NAV screen is only used in telephone mode when you receive a call and the number pops up. I never use the horrible little dialer circle with the input knob...what a design disaster that thing is. I just use the phone if it's a non-address book number that I need to dial.

You should start a new thread for this in B7 A4 and B7 S4/RS4...I'm sure some other guys who are more nerdy than us will have some wicked tips.

Yes you can. Click on the phone and click phone book. All your contacts should come up on the nav screen.

    Cool.

What does that do for you now? Do you have to use the knob on the dash to scroll through them? I prefer the steering wheel scroller if possible, especially while driving. That little knob beside the screen is a crash waiting to happen!

I do that but it just tells me that a telephone is not installed. It's referring to that useless phone cradle in the armrest.

so to clarify, you just searched for the audi bluetooth thru your phone, and then it automatically loaded all of your contacts to the rns-e?
