they say that they can get the injectors within 2% of each other.... for 18 a piece they also give you new o-rings and a new pintle cap (if it is damaged)

    seafoam, and seafoam only imo..

    Shit works wonders..

I put seafoam in the crank case, pcv valve, and in the gas tank.. After I change the oil and filter, I put in lucas oil stabilizer and the car is noticibly smoother.. Only way to go!

I know seafoam works, but I am starting to think Ultrasonic cleaning is better.... what do you guys think?

I started this thread because Jason at JHM suggested ultrasonic cleaning.... and I am sure he knows what he's talking about. What I wanted to know was if anyone has used this company before and if they were satisfied with their work.

Re: Injector Cleaning.. has anyone ever used this company...?

Its pretty much a basic overhaul of the injector... its gonna be way better then whatever gasoline/engine additive you can buy at a local parts store..
I overhaul/repair aicraft fuel atomizers/injectors at my job, and its probably the next best thing rather then buying a new injector...

I say you find a set of used injectors on the forums for 40-50 bucks.. preferably from someone who is going stage 3, then send those out to get cleaned for 150$ (shipping/tax included) and you have virtually a new set of injectors for a fraction of the cost of a new set...

Why are you interested in getting your injectors cleaned? high mileage? misfire? throwing codes?

anyways thats just my 2 cents..

I get an average of 14 misses at idle per minute.... Since all of the igntion components have been replaced I started wondering about the injectors.. I mean, the car sat for a few years in a junk yard before I came along and decided to fix it.. I woudnt be suprised if they were somewhat plugged...

Re: Injector Cleaning.. has anyone ever used this company...?

Yup, if your getting misfires and you replaced all ignition components, I would definitely start looking into the injectors.. considering you car has been parked up for a while it may very well be a clogged/sticky injector... You should consider finding a used set and getting them cleaned, that way you car wouldnt suffer any down time..

hmmm, there's a thought. Mine sat idle for most of it's life too, at least before I got it. The prev. Owner would keep it in the garage for months since he lived/worked in Japan or something... shit, it only had 12k miles on it just last year!

I know I've tried a few injector cleaners and a new fuel filter earlier on in my "quest", but didn't think that the injectors might be clogged beyond chemical rehabilitation. you might be on to something buddy

Re: Injector Cleaning.. has anyone ever used this company...?

Alright, I have decided to go ahead and send my injectors in for cleaning.. I ran into a problem though... I got everything off the fuel rail and took the 4 bolts out that hold it to the intake manifold... but I cant for the life of me lift the fuel rail off the car...I can wiggle it side to side and forward and backwards but it does not come up... I looked into the bentley and it says that the rail is supposed to come up with the injectors still clipped to it... well, I pull and pull and the whole car is starting to move but the rai will not come up... what else is holding it down? could it be the injector orings that are glued to the intake manifold.... how do I get them to let go... how has everyone else done it?

typical, the injectors get kind of seized into the manifold, thats why you should always replace the o-rings.

my car had a misfire when i didn't fully seat the plug into those gizmos ontop of the air box, i'd check those for corrosion along with the other connections.

well, lets first see if this is a step in the right direction... I have them packed and ready to go.. tomorrow I will ship.. by early next week they should have them... they said they have a 2 day turnaround time so I am thinking by tuesday or wednesday I should have a pre-cleaning flow chart for the injectors... Then we'll see just how bad they are... btw, total cost of the cleaning and flowbench is $118.00 and that includes shipping back to you...

Hahah, my fuel rail was quite the bitch also, two prybars with even pressure on both sides did the trick for me!

Re: Injector Cleaning.. has anyone ever used this company...?

Today I got my injectors back.. results were somewhat interesting (in order from 1 trough 6 separated by commas) ALL TESTS DONE AT 43.5 PSI:

    RESISTANCE: 14.3, 14.4, 14.3, 14.4, 14.5, 14.4

PRE CLEANING SPRAY PATTERN: GOOD, GOOD, FAIR, GOOD, GOOD, GOOD
POST CLREANING SPRAY PATTERN: ALL GOOD

    PRE CLEANING STATIC FLOW IN CC: 95.5, 93, 92.5, 96, 95.5, 96.5
    POST CLEANING STATIC FLOW IN CC: 96, 95, 95, 96, 95.5, 96.5

    PRE CLEANING PULSED FLOW IN CC: 97, 95.5, 94, 98, 97.5, 98
    POST CLEANING PULSED FLOW IN CC: 98, 97.5, 97, 98, 97.5, 98

    CC/MIN @ 43.5 PSI: 288, 285, 285, 288, 286.5, 289.5

PRE CLEANING INJECTOR BALANCE: 4.1% of each other
POST CLEANING INJECTOR BALANCE: 1.0% of each other

    TESTING FLUID TEMPERATURE: 71F

So yeah, the cleaning improved injectors 1, 2, and 3 big time.. the rest improved by very little. The only thing I would have done differenlty is specify the pressure I wanted them to test them at... our cars have a 4 bar pressure regulator.. 4 bars is 58psi. Ohh well, next time I have injectors cleaned I'll make sure to tell them to crank the pressure up to what the car actually uses them at. Improvements were noticed though across the board... was it a waste of $118.00? I dont think so.

Nice. Now you just have to throw those suckers back in an see if it helps your misfiring issues at all... I've been anxious to see the results, but just might end up doing it anyway. Thanks for the tip on the regulator pressure

Let us know ASAP how it went with the cleaned injectors back in the car! I have a slightly rough/lumpy idle that shakes the car once in a while while at a dead stop. Its nothing bad but i can def feel it if i am sitting completely still. I have no vacuum leaks and i have also redone my ignition.

Missfires went from 14 per minute to 7 per minute max, and thats when its cold.. once at operating temperature I am getting about 4 per minute... sometimes it goes for a few minutes at a time with just one missfire per minute...

Overall I think It was money well spent. When you compare sonic cleaning to seafoam, seafoam dont do shit! lol.. it is to be noted that I seafoamed my engine about a month before I sent the injectors in...

how did you count your miss fires per minute? was it through a logging program that had a counter built in? how were the miss fires being considered? eratic changes in AFR? knock? just curious. i am not getting any DTCs but my idle does seem "misfirish".. my engine also diesels (continues to run for 2 secs) pretty heavily when i shut it off, and i have done all maintenance.

very nice indeed. yeah, you cannot compare high-pressure / sonic cleaning with chemical cleaning IMO. Seafoam is great stuff, don't get me wrong... but like anything else it has it's limitations.

Well, I gonna have to try this one of these days (soon). I'd say for the price of new injectors, it's worth it! If I can get rid of these phantom misfires, I will love my car so much more

Re: Injector Cleaning.. has anyone ever used this company...?

Update... all of today it acted like stated above.. tonight I just came from a drive and was a bit disappointed... the problem is still at idle.. there were times when cylinder 2 and cylinder 3 logged 40 misses per minute.. kinda bad if you ask me... Throttle response is better nontheless and it doesnt surge when getting off the throttle now but the misses at idle continue... I'll see in the morning and post how its going.

Well, my life is very ironic... here I was dissing seafoam. Now, I did put seafoam into the tank, but I had never had the car suck it up the intake... so as a last resort I got a couple of bottles of seafoam and had it suck them both up the intake... after all the smoke and a 30 mile drive missfires were back under control. This morning I did some more logging and the worst I got was 14 per minute... otherwise about 4. I did notice that when I have the AC running my missfires go down... with the AC my load is at 22.5 to 23%. without the AC running I am at 20.5 to 21%. Should I reaise the load at idle with Lemmi?

Update.. with lemmiwinks I raised the idle torque... at first I raised it a couple points at a time.. then I raised it by 10... saw an improvement, I then raised it by 20 and all missfires were vitually gone.. when the car start up it idles at 26.. by the time its warmed up it idles at 23.2 to 22.5 wich seems to be the sweetspot for my particular s4.

I should have mentioned that I did raise the Idle RPMs to 800 about a month ago, and I heard from a vw buddy that when you raise your idle rpms you also have to bump up the idle torque a bit... kinda makes sense if you ask me.
