well... i stepped up the game.. now a D2 A8L owner

just this week i took ownership of an 01 A8L (which seems to be a D2? if i am correct... bear with me here... this whole 4 ring thing is all new to me). It's basically going to be for the wife for her DD (works 4 miles from home, and shuttles kids back and forth.... while i take over her 00 Passat Wagon as my DD.

I kind of lucked into this. It was my boss' car since new (well, it has been titled in like 4 diff. names over the years, but a one FAMILY owner car essentially) It came with ALL of the old service records, down to when lightbulbs were changed. It was I'm going to say 95% serviced at the dealer, with all of the "major" big ticket items that i'm aware of (cats, tranny, tb/h2o pump, pollen filters, brakes, etc.) already done in the last few years. I have no doubts that it was VERY well taken care of and maintained. It was never wrecked, but did have the hood and front bumper repainted because of stone chips (alot of the miles were highway - between PA and DE or PA and FL. it has a tick under 115k, but it looks, drives, and even smells (yes smells) like a relatively new car. i honestly dont think the back seat has really ever been used, and the trunk looks like brand new still... and has that funky new car smell (very odd to say the least)

Anyways... I'm more of a vw guy myself, i have a few others right now, and a bunch in the past. I have a great vw/audi mechanic that is not only local, but one of my best friends as well. he's taken care of my cars for the last few years, and i have no doubts to the shops abilities.

anyways... since we all like pictures... here are a few. I'll try and get some better ones this weekend if the weather holds out. She'll have it in OCMD at H2Oi

some crappy early morning cellphone pics

first "mod" was to remove the front NA plate holder, and throw a euro plate i had lying around in the hole

for kicks and grins... the other cars in the stable

    the 00 passat - 4mo, v6, lowered 1.5", 18" huffs

the 85 jetta - way too much done... it was the FIRST vr6 swap into a mk2 in the states back in 1993

    her 80 jetta project

my 74 super beetle project (it was my first car, and still have it)
    was: (circa late 1991 / early 1992)

    now:

    eventually:

that about wraps it up for me... the name is Brian... live in Central PA... have way too many damn cars....

    crazy eights - you've got a pm

tiesto... thanks. yea, it is as clean as it looks. the maint. folder is about an inch thick. if it needed a turnsignal bulb replaced or new wiper blades... it went to the dealer.

we took it to h2o, and it did surprisingly well... wasnt as thirsty as i anticipated... we would have easily made it the 400+ mile round trip, with a bunch of other running around, with gas to spare... so that was good. i didnt figure out the exact mileage though.

anyways... now that i'm back from the shore... i'll scope this place out a bit more

oh yea.... the mileage on the 8s is great. when i picked up my car for the first time, i came from northern PA back down here to MD on one tank easily. somewhere around 550-600 miles on the tank. probably somewhere are 23-25 mpg... but i was going 90-120 mph most of the way home so guess the efficiency could've been better.

heh heh... wheels are staying fo' sho'. my mechanic knows of a guy that has another complete set, and i really should talk to him and see what the deal is with them. i've already talked to a local guy that does polishing... should they should be taken care of by springtime.

i'm also looking into suspension... the thought of air, is VERY intriguing right now. i've seen mike kippens old one... YOWZA! that was actually one of the cars i showed the wife, that helped seal the deal.

my boss had a basically identical 99 that he sold a few months back. the silver had a bit more of a blue tint, and it had the alacantera headliner (which mine does not unfortunately) and it had the fat 5's on it. they're nice wheels... but they just dont "fit" the car... ya know?

any thoughts as to where i would find monster mats, or something similar to the vw monster mats for winter? i'd really hate to mess up the super nice carpet mats in the car currently (yes, i am slightly OCD )

well i am planning on lowering my car as well...im going to stay away from air ride, and i was going to do H&R coilovers, or going to do B&G springs and Bilstein shocks...dont know yet....but i do have the fat 5's on my car...doesnt fit at all i agree. i have been looking everywere for the monoblocks...cant find them anywere.... umm as far as matts, i just went to the stealership and a guy i know hooked me up with a set of 4 matts fo free

yea, lowering won't be for some time... IF it happens. we have h&r springs (not coilovers) on the 4mo wagon, and are very happy with the ride, so i would not be opposed to doing springs/shocks on the a8l.

i'm assuming yours looks similar (although cleaner) than the 99 he sold last winter

i'll talk to my mechanic, and see what the deal is with those wheels he knows of and let you know.
