Do i go with BILSTEIN Sport or KONIS..

ok so as some of you have may see on my previous posts, the suspension in my car is done. Im tired of the crappy handeling, the shitttty wave, and the car kissing the road at times. (You know on the road and you see a dark oil spot and know its going to be a dip..yeah well i hit that and after i do im doin the wave/bounce..)

Ive been reading up that the Bilstein sports arnt that stiff as ppl hope? is this true?

Id like to have quite a stiff suspension. Currently im on Stock suspension with lowering springs (YEAH! i didnt do it...previous owner....what was he thinking)

Ne ways im lookin for feed back, for ppl rollin on the sports and others rolling on koni's.

Plus i have Enough speed bumps in my complex so id like to keep the car quite stiff.

    Thx

The Bilsteins will feel a little sharper, more precise, and firmer.

The Konis will feel a little more supple but provide the same lap times.

Bilsteins are a high pressure monotube that can act as a supplemental spring which is why little bumps are felt more than with a low pressure twin tube like a Koni.

I've got Shine springs with Bilsteins on my A4 Avant and Shine springs with Konis on a friend's S4 Avant and the S4 rides better.

I just wana make sure there quite stiff. No sag, no bottoming out. Id rather have quite stiff then smacking the pavement every other day... GRRR. I have to like crawl over bumps

KW V3's or Stasis Track Sports are options as well. The Stasis Track Sports are re-valved Koni's with custom spring rates. I really like my ride, but for a 350whp car I need to revisit my suspension all over again soon.

Since you are going to rip it all apart why not get a coil over system? It will be adjustable.

    My thoughts on shocks...
Bilstein, HD & Sports, stiff, with to much high & low speed (sharp) rebound. They need a stiffer spring to get the most from them. This creates a stiff & not Girlfriend approved ride.

Koni, adjustable, much lower compression & rebound. You can dial in the ride. Can be a PITA to adjust, & if you get it wrong, you will be floating like a Caddy, & not have any control, & feel worse then stock. But will be more GF approved.

You are also stuck with your current ride height.

Since you are going in there anyway, I would suggest a balanced, engineered coil over system.

Not to tout our Votgland GT system, but it's one of the best budget performance coil over out there.

Re: Do i go with BILSTEIN Sport or KONIS..

Save more. If you're going to keep the car a while and appreciate the difference it's SO worth it I can't tell you. It's the biggest overall improvement you can make to these cars is putting a good suspension system in it. Having driven many cars with many different suspensions, the a good coilover is worth it's weight in gold. I've got a b5a4 with bilstein sports and h+r sports and it's truly awful [was on the car long before I came to work here, and I get endless crap for it!]. The stock sport setup is going on tomorrow for winter!

I know of a great Audi suspension company in northern CA... ;-) Our tracksports [as mentioned above] use a better Koni damper, with more aggressive valving tuned to a linear rate spring and the damping is adjustable on the car, which is really nice.

Re: Do i go with BILSTEIN Sport or KONIS..

Having run Koni and Bilstein in the past, I'll always go Bilstein Sport dampers.

My A4 Quattro's running Bilstein Sport dampers (yellows) in conjunction with Eibach Pro springs.

Ride height is lowered by about 30mm, and that's enough for me.

The ride is firm without being harsh, has never bottomed out. I found Koni's softer.
