I know this isn't the tech forum but thought I'd get more replies here. I know you have to fabricate new brackets if you get aftermarket speakers and I was wondering how some have done this. thanks

    Re: Replacing front door speaker?

Pics are pretty self explanatory. Used real washers in actual installation, pics are just mock setup. These are 5.25" speakers (one size up from stock). OEM speakers use isocoles triangle shape, replacement speakers are square. The bottom two square mounts (new speaker) lined up w/ original two bottom holes. The top is just held snug by the third screw/washer. I've done this on two cars with great long term results. Very easy.

    Red screws are OEM holes.

    Re: Replacing front door speaker?

I bought a set of kenwood something or others for the front...two of the holes lined up and then i just tossed a couple zipties on for insurance...sounds great, no issues whatsoever....

a custom bracket set-up would be ideal, but I did not feel like it was needed in my application....

For what its worth I just installed a new set of polk db401 speakers. With some convincing I bolted them up to the factory adapters

What kind of speaker are you guys using, I'm looking for something low cost without the tweeter since we have the tweeters in the higher part of the door.

How much are the polks you mentioned?

Not sure what your budget is, but I just ordered some component speakers (MB Quart's) from http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/ for the front doors.

    $77.00 shipped... MB Quart FSA 213 5.25" with a 1.0" tweeter

I had MB Quarts in my old 1990 GLI and really liked them.
