    New HID headlights & Foglights question

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Everyone....

    I just got new HID lights put in my headlights and foglights... They are 8000k and are the new Slim ballasts. I read somewhere that you need to change the fuse to something higher after installing HID, is this true? If so what do I need to change it too?

    Thanks

    I did not change my fuse, and don't plan on it. The amperage is 15 (headlights), and you would increase it to whatever makes you feel comfortable. Anything between 15 and 20amps. I would assume the same principle applies to the fog lights.

    you shouldn't need a new fuse.

    your ballasts are probably 35 watts.

    power = voltage x current

    35 = 12 x A

    A = 35/12

    only the older model a4s have 10 amp fuses for the headlights... in this case, switch to 15 amp fuses. newer b5s with one piece lights already have 15 amp fuses.

    next change to 4300K-5000K bulbs so you can see where you're going....

    Re: New HID headlights & Foglights question

    Thanks for the help guys.... I noticed that sometimes not all the time that one of the bulb doesn't work, then after I turn the headlight off/on they work. I thought this may be because of the fuse... Is there a problem with my HID's? has anyone else experienced this?

    Thanks again
