    RS4 vs. C63

Hey guys which car is faster around the track stock 08 RS4 or 08 Stock C63. I know on a drag race the RS4 will get owned, however previously owning a Mercedes cl class and now an S4 the S4 handles better hands down. Acceleration wise its close to call.

    Thanks.

    Re: RS4 vs. C63

I suppose it depends on the track.

If it has plenty of long straights you'd imagine that the C63 would be quicker.

    Re: RS4 vs. C63

The RS4 is faster around the track the C63 is faster most of the time in the straights. I mean if whoever gets the jump will win the race. from a dead stop the RS4 will have it till the top of third then the C63 will drive right by it.

I would imagine the RS4 to be much quicker cause it doesnt wrap around a tree at every corner

What was that vid (can't see; at work)...the Top Gear comparison? Funny as hell.

I think that was a big track in Spain somewhere...times were like 2:30. That means it was probably over 3 miles long...lot's of straights. If it were the normal twisty Top Gear track, the RS4 would have fared much better. The B6 S4 OWNED the previous gen M3 around the proper Top Gear track, despite being slower in the straights. I think it was about a 1 second difference on a short track (about 1:31).

I would think the E46 M3 and S4 would be pretty equal on straights, if not some advantage to the S4 - mainly due to V8 grunt and AWD off the corners is going to be faster. But unless it was wet, I would expect the E46 to do better in the corners - if for no other reason the M3 is 400lbs lighter. I would expect on a dry track that the S4 and M3 (E46) would be fairly evenly matched overall.

I'm willing to bet that in YOUR HANDS, the RS4 would be way faster around a track than the C63. And, since YOU would be driving the car, this is what counts.

People often think just about the car, and not about the more important car-driver interface.

    Re: RS4 vs. C63

C63 is monster fast in the straights, but i don't know how it will do on the turns. RS4 in M5 board gets owned by the previous generation M5's. I don't know why audi is slow on the straightaways compared to its rivals. For instance the R8 and the Porsche 911.

This is a good point. Driving a quattro car is easier for the average normal/performance driver. Quattro will make up for a lot of driver errors on the track. A professional race driver is a different animal.

Are you kidding? That's the Stig.

The C63 is .4 seconds faster than the RS4 around the track albeit with 45 more horsepower.

At that margin it's about the driver.

It's the Ascari track in Spain. 2:43.5 for the C63, 2:43.9 for the RS4, 2:38.9 for the M3.

For the mathematically challenged, that's 4.6 seconds faster than the C63 and 5.0 seconds faster than the RS4.

<excuses mode> When the B8 RS4 comes out I have no doubt it is faster than either car. The B6/B7 chassis is going on 8 model years now? </em>

B6/B7 = 8E Chassis and yeah its been out since 2001 for the A4 and 2003 for the S4, so yeah the chassis is 7 years old

Just watch the vid on YouTube and it'll answer all your questions. The E46 M3 was faster on the straights, but the B6 S4 ends up faster around the track from better traction through the turns.

Yup back in '03 they tested the B6 S4 and the M3 and the S4 was about 1 second faster around the TG track.

Time and time again up until recently when they reviewed fast sedans (saloons) they would choose the S4.

    Re: RS4 vs. C63

The C63 likely has better stock suspension than the RS4. Despite this, I still think it's faster around the track. I can't give much creedence to the video given that awful understeer instigated by the driver, which I'm sure cost him the win. He may be a pro but jumping from RWD to AWD requires line adjustments. Drop a better suspension on the RS4 and give it to a guy who knows how to drive AWD and the the RS4 will beat the C63 by a healthy margin.

rwd drive cars in general will have a better chance but even then they both have more whp then the rs4 and the downfall is the awd system on teh rs4 heats up the tires quick causing understeer while the rwd cars dont get this as much.

Apples to apples, RWD will always be faster in the straights and AWD will always be faster through the turns. Simple racing physics. Audi cleaned up in the mid to late 90s thanks to quattro until it got banned and sanctioned from various racing circuits due to the unfair advantage afforded by AWD.

As for tires, heat is generated from high speed and g-force and has nothing to do with the drive system of a car. Excessive heat is generated when slipping (over/under-steer) but that just means the car is not being driven to its full potential, regardless of whether it has RWD, AWD or FWD.
