What is behind the fog light knockout?

I noticed a lot of you guys with the 2.0 don't have that knock out that sits to the inside of the fog lights. I read some where that the bumper incorporates some brake cooling, is that where it comes from? In some photos I have seen it almost looks like there is some channeling behind the knockout, almost like a scoop. I have a 2006 non sline 3.2. I have searched but only come up with installing rs4 fog light grills and what not.

Are you talking about the rubber piece? it channels the air into the SMIC's on both sides. some people might not have them because they have a FMIC!

I think it directs air to the SMIC.

if you are talking about those black pieces next to foglight, like others it purpose is to direct or funnal air to the smic.
3.2 do not have this because they are not turbo'd.

I have not heard about that brake cooling you are speaking of, any links?

Laterally split intakes below the body-colored bumper and outboard of the grille do dual duty, housing fog lamps and channeling air toward the front disc brakes.

from that reading, if thats the sentence, to me it sounds like its sending air towards the front brakes...but not specifically at them. It could just be the way I am trained to read =x

but would be nice to know if the brakes do in fact get air

i think you are mistaken about what a ventilated disc is.

the top one is a solid disc (you will likely find those on the rear axle of modern cars), and the bottom one is a ventilated disc (most modern passenger cars use that on the front axle)
